:labour: New Old Labour in trouble

There is a certain irony about left wingers complaining about political bias from the BBC. This has been the Tory refrain for years. The phrase “they don’t like it up 'em” springs to mind.

This is what it must have felt like for the tories when the Sun switched allegiance to New labour.

I know, but I didn’t think “smugger” was a word!!

Danczuk really should learn when to put the shovel down. Why would you think this is a good idea?

Simon Danczuk earlier this week asked to meet up with the 18-year-old girl who exposed sexually explicit text messages that led to the MP’s suspension from the Labour party.

The Sun newspaper revealed that the most recent text exchanges between the two came after Ms Houlihan contacted Mr Danczuk on Saturday – two days after reports of the sexual exchanges were exposed – to say: “I just wanna say sorry.”

Four days later Mr Danczuk replied saying: “Hi Sophena! I’m sorry too. Hope it hasn’t caused too much upset.”

He then explained to her that a media agency was offering to organise a rendezvous for the two of him.

Mr Danczuk wrote: “Come on, let’s do this first meeting . . . it’ll actually be funny!”

Dude’s thirst for attention is off the scale.

He really is the gift that keeps on giving

I understand from this week’s Private Eye that Danczuk is represented by a firm set up by Max Clifford’s old staffers after he was sent down.

He is singlehandedly demonstrating that not all publicity is good publicity.

Typical modern Labour politician, self serving little bastard, the same goes for all other parties mp’s as well, I hate them with a passion.
They PC us to death for this but for them its the norm.

Jeremy Corbyn’s Twitter account was recently hacked. Among the messages tweeted by the users, we got “fuck Trident” and “David Cameron is a pie”.

I’d like to see some rigorous questioning of Cameron to see if he really is a pie.

Surprised to see no mention here of the shadow attorney general resigning today, citing too many internal difficulties and negativity.

She will no doubt be a lightweight unknown mp from a narrow right wing clique of the party.

Corbyn does seem rather careless when it comes to retaining staff.

I think we can do better than that.

How’s about “Blairite running dog chasing the tails of her establishment masters”? This is the Corbyn age after all, and John McDonnell _did _quote from Mao’s little red book.

It’s all connected :lou_sunglasses:

(arf!)

Corbyn sets out policy aims at the Fabian Society.

  • Renationalise railways to bring down fares. Franchises would be managed locally;
  • Locally owned energy suppliers, emulating the German model;
  • Integration of health and social care;
  • Creation of a lifelong education service that would help retrain and reskill workers;
  • Universal childcare;
  • Repeal the Tory Trade Union Act;
  • Fixed pay ratios for companies to stop top management earning many multiples more than lowest paid workers;
  • Restriction on dividend payments for firms that don’t pay the living wage

Integration of health and social care;

Interested to know more about this. If they are going to bring in free adult social care then about time. The arguments between Health and Social Care re is it a health need or a social care need for vulnerable people is appalling. Having studied this issue and then seeing it with my grandfather and now my step gran at first hand it seems unfair to treat people so badly. However this would be more the adult social care and not children’s as really it’s a very different role. Though the mental health service for children could do with being a bit more integrated (and funding massively increased) at times. I work in a team where there are child and adult mental health workers, employment and education workers so we can give a more rounded service.

Repeal the Tory Trade Union Act

Gets my vote :slight_smile:

Renationalise the railways. It is an idea than will win huge appeal. But it will require a huge lump of cash to pay for it. And some people to manage the business who are much better than when it was run by BR for sure.

Same goes for locally owned utility businesses. Nothing to object to the idea here either, but in practice will require much more thought.

Look forward to hearing more detail on these in due course.

I told you that Bucks was going to try to be more socialist.

Welcome, comrade!

I see Jezzer wants to open dialogue with IS. The grouping who wish to return the Earth to the Stone Age.

“It’s not unlike the situation in Northern Ireland” says a talking head…

OK who do I send your plane tickets to?

Is that really their aim? Seems incompatible with running a murderous theocracy and their use of social media. How will they communicate and record information? Cave painting?

“It’s not unlike the situation in Northern Ireland” says a talking head…

In some senses, that’s right, in others it is way off the mark. It’s right in the sense that we’ve got implacable enemies that we cannot communicate with publicly. It’s also correct in the sense that we’re not at war with a legitimate state, meaning that the usual diplomatic routes are closed off. Both IS and the NI paramilitary forces used violence against civilian populations.

Things diverge massively on other points. Putin reckons that a good deal of IS is comprised of mercenaries, rather than ideological people committed to a defined political cause. There’s no real history of IS either, whereas in NI the communities, problems and grievances were long established and better understood.

OK who do I send your plane tickets to?

No-one. If we completely remove the option of using back channels, then it follows that the only option left to us is to kill them all to death, something that I actually think is inevitable with the true believers.

But if you could take out a significant portion of less ideologically committed IS members with diplomacy, talks, perhaps even getting some to switch sides, why wouldn’t you leave that option on the table?

In conclusion, if you’re annoyed with this back channel, you’re annoyed with all of them.
