:labour: New Old Labour in trouble

Ok? Is that the media campaign against Corbyn :lou_facepalm_2:

Nope, it’s a proven example of the media influencing the news they’re looking to report.

A majority of the general public believes that the media is biased against Corbyn.

The London School of Economics, not exactly a Mickey Mouse Uni, reported that the media in general reflected Corbyn’s contributions accurately and in context in 11% of articles written referencing him.

The general public think there’s bias. Academics think there is bias.

I suppose the first obvious question is how this perceived and proven bias came about. It’s a relatively easy question to address. There’s not a whole deal of plurality in the media. The jobs within, espeicially the plum opinion or regular contributor to a major reporting organ of this nation.

Owen Jones is a delicious example. I have praised this bloke to the high heavens for his book, The Establishment. And how they get away with it. It’s a fantastic book, but he fell victim to the exact forces he described during in his book, in the Labour leadership campaign. He’s rowing back.

If you’re right, and there is no media conspiracy, that looks the media look even worse, imo.

How on earth did the people who are supposed to be reporting the news end up so far away from the opinion of the British public, academics and Labour members? The conspiracy angle at least has the benefit of according the media competence.

Thanks, but don’t hate me if I get a second opinion.

“Attack. Attack. Attack.”

Are you a Man U fan in disguise? :lou_sunglasses:

Seriously though Ted, I’m not going to demean the issues raised by getting into a flame war. You’re offering very little in return except name-calling, and I’ll leave it that.

Please feel free to furnish us with some actual responses to the points made, rather than blanket smears. Ta.

Ok, do you believe that the “Media” is one entity that is controlled by unseen forces or are you ok

Nope, but much of it is in very few hands, as articulated earlier on.

The problem for traditional Western media is that is becoming untrustworthy, irrelevant and in competition with other sources of information, sometimes different global perspectives, but mostly the media bypass that’s happened on social media.

Westernmedia ?

Diminishing returns. Going to bed.

I understand mate.

I’m not sure that you did. I got bored with the conversation when the thread stopped becoming discussion and started becoming an insult. Thanks for deleting the superfluous posts.

81% of the mainstream UK media owned and controlled by 6 corporations, failing to accurately represent Corbyn’s views 75% of the time. I’m sure that’s just a coincidence…

It’s worth remembering that the BBC has a massive market share in every sector it competes in. It’s top in television news, radio news and internet news. It’s also under immense threat from both the government, and private interests. The government are going to pretty much decide its entire board, a scandal in itself. The organisation is going to lose licence payer money from those 75 and over, has to open itself up to private interests, who are only too aware of the market share and are looking to create their own kind of pressure.

The upper echelons of BBC News are stuffed with Conservatives that make Niick Robinson look like a left winger. Leaving aside Andrew Neil and the awful Laura K, you’ve still got James Harding, George Osborne’s mate, running BBC News.

There really is not much point in engaging with Ted, if he really does believe that the MSM is not biased regarding Jeremy Corbyn then he is a lost cause. The BBC is indeed stuffed with Conservatives. Nick Robinson looks like a left winger? FFS, Nick Robinson was president of the Oxford University Conservative Association, a founder member of the Macclesfield Young Conservatives. He is a Tory, through and through. He got the job as BBC political editor in preference to Martha Carney, despite the fact that she was the hot favourite for the job, but she was considered ‘too independently minded’! Anyone who tries to make an argument that the likes of Rupert Murdoch, Lord Rothermere, (The Mail), the Barclay brothers, ( the Telegraph), the pornographer who owns the Star and the Express, are not biased against Corbyn cannot, quite frankly, be taken seriously in an adult conversation.,

The point was that compared to much of the other reporting, he of all people has done some fair coverage.

“Compared to much of the other reporting, he of all people has done some marginally less biased coverage”.

There, fixed that for you!

Adult conversation  I guess i’m not popular here, but i’m just being honest. I’ve worked in your so called “MSM” mainstream news I guess? For the last 15 years, BBC, ITN, C4 and there’s no big conspiracy against Corbyn. There is a concrete and real political undermining of the BBC from Murdoch.

You may think there is not, but there is. But you will be directed by those who have an anti Corbyn stance. Subtle it maybe but it is there without a doubt.
