:labour: New Old Labour in trouble

The RW of the Labour Party will tell you that local elections don’t matter, unless it’s Mosborough, because Labour have just lost that, and like everything else, it’s Corbyn’s fault.

Jezza has just got some support from an unlikely source, Liberal Democrat Gail Smith, winning candidate in that contest.

Writing on the Star website, she said: “My Lib Dems team and I have spent the last 10 weeks working seven days a week in Mosborough, knocking on just about every door, and I can tell you Jeremy Corbyn was more popular than Angela Smith wants to admit. I certainly do not agree that is why I won.

“Most people told us that they never saw Labour, only at election time and they felt taken for granted. One lady told me that she had been canvassed by Labour, who when she told them she was voting for me, was told ‘You cannot vote Lib Dems, you live in a Labour area’.

“And that is the arrogance of this Labour Party here in Sheffield - Corbyn is not as unpopular as they would like you to think. They need to look very closely at their own leadership in Sheffield.”

“New New” Labour in trouble again, or at least, bringing the party into more disrepute.

Owen Smith reckons that not only will he pull us back into the EU, but we’ll join Schengen (that’s no border controls) and join the Euro (that’s no currency controls).

He’ll be pitching this to the 17m people he reckons have been duped, already a little pissed off at his arrogance on that score.

They are trolling the public, aren’t they?

People now being purged for _any _reason :lou_sunglasses:

Labour MPs are not facing deselection. They are facing the abolition of their actual seats. That’s a huge difference pic.twitter.com/ax6hWoOeqj

I’m loving this! All you Labour of wanting change, then join up and be part of this!

Organising communites, transforming britain
Jeremy’s leadership campaign has launched a strategy aimed at making Labour’s membership a dynamic presence in every corner of Britain, in order to empower communities and win the next general election.

Labour organising academy logo

The plan, “Organising our communities, transforming Britain”, includes a commitment to:

Convening an Organising Innovation Task Force, bringing together experts in organising and campaigning from across the Labour movement
The establishment of Labour Organising Academies across the country, which will deliver organising skills and training underpinned by Labour values to tens of thousands of members
The enrolment of party members who wish to gain new skills and commit to transforming their own community, into modern organising and campaigning training.
You can read the full document below.

Pap. I’d love to know what your thoughts are on how this will end up. The most likely outcome appears to be a breakaway group following corbyn’s inevitable leadership win. So do you support corbyn because you believe he has a chance of a victory at a general election? Or is it because you believe that dragging labour ideologically back to its roots will give future left leaning leaders a better chance? If it’s the former then do you not consider it more likely that the general public will reject much of corbyn’s doctrine and give him a bit of a spanking? I’m struggling to see how he has any chance of victory.

As time goes by, I’m ever more convinced that Corbyn is Labour’s only chance of victory. I previously assumed the split likelihood depended on the mandate Corbyn receives, but there has been so much fucking about with voters that I’m not sure it will reflect reality. I am enfranchised, yet still don’t have a vote. There are 100k more admin errors like me.

I think the rebels have been hoping for a smaller mandate, enough of a platform to launch another coup whenever they get David Miliband back into Parliament.

Smith was never there to win. This isn’t about them winning a GE. It’s just about getting minority control of the party back. Always has been. If Corbyn is a bit more damaged and the mandate is narrowed, they’re happy.

Gotta feel sorry for any Smith supporter that has acted in good faith.

I had a call tonight from the Labour Party. Asking me if i had received my email with the passwords that would allow me to vote. I cast my vote early last week and the password was unique so they surely knew this. I was then questioned, asking if i had ever been involved with another party and why i decided to become involved.

Isn’t it a little late for this? Am i to be excluded for voting the wrong way? Is everything a conspiracy? Will i get a refund if i’m deemed unworthy?

There’s been a strange car parked outside my house all week, and evidence my bins have been tampered with. I had a call from the school the other day, saying that someone had vaulted the schoolyard fence, and was taking photos of my kids. Last night, i was on the train home, and a strange man trod on my foot. I yelped in pain, and he grabbed my shirt collar, pulled me close and hissed in my face; “There’s more where that come from. Vote Smith.”

Sunday Mirror said it was about to push the button on more Keith Vaz revelations.

Sunday Mirror Twitter account was suspended not long after, and hasn’t been back up since. People are wondering whether a super injunction has been applied.

Lol, I decided to look this guy up based, I have to confess, entirely on his bizarre look. It transpires that he was comparing Hilary Benn to Hitler and Franco :lou_facepalm_2:. Now, whatever the pros and cons of Benn’s argument, the last thing it would seem wise or sensible to do is to compare Benn to a facist dictator (the whole idea is laughable) and that his ideas are going to oppress poor old ISIS.

Pehaps less Gandalf the Wise and more Saruman the distinctly Unwise.

Don’t know the bloke and have never been a train driver.

Just from that article though, I think you’ve misrepresented him (as has the article itself).

Benn drew the Spanish Civil War comparison himself during the debate. In that context, it’s perfectly reasonable to ask which side the Brits ended up taking in Syria.

Were we the Hemingways of this world, going to fight fascism?

Or were we hiding in planes and bombing the crap out of stuff like the Nazis did at Guernica?

Sure, fair point and I know Benn brought up the analogy. But to compare ISIS to the Spanish Repulicans…?

A point Benn makes himself, forgetting that he introduced the flawed comparisons in the first place.

Benn knows that these strikes carry significant collateral damage if we use the “cheap” bomb (priced the same as a university education, kids).

Any inkling about how that victory will play out? I’m not asking you to predict the future but I’d be interested in hearing how you think he’s going to win a general election, particularly with the poll numbers as they are and a general public thus far largely unreceptive to his message. What will change between now and the next election? What makes Corbyn more electable in the eyes of Joe Public than Milliband?

stop trolling on pap ffs! If pap wants to believe that cats can dance macarena, and water flows uphill, that is his business, don’t try and make him justify the mechanics of it! It’s stomping on his Dreams! Everyone knows that Labour is Fucked, and Hate My Arse will win next election, even if she spends the intervening yrs setting fire to primary schools, and fingering badgers. That’s just the Way Things Are RIP.
