:libdems: Lib Dems - The Ignored Younger Sibling

I can see that happening. If the next UK elections go the same way as the most recent European ones, it wouldn’t surprise me in the least to see a coalition of enemies suddenly finding common ground solely to keep out the populist winner.

Anyone who wants others to live by their standards whilst having no understanding or empathy for the people it impacts.

Where I live its like that, we’re a model example of it, Liverpool’s probably only or one of them liberal places, many people in this area imagine immigration, assimilation and integration is like this all over or I’m sure they do, we’ve doctors, lawyers and all that from all over and yes that’s great but the value of houses means we’re detached from the sad reality that isn’t the case, far from it in fact.

1/2 a mile away from here and there is some of the worst social deprivation in the country, ask them what they think, and that is my point, I’ve empathy for the ones who’re suffering at this, I’m fortunate it doesn’t affect me but I sure as shit wouldn’t mock or deem someone as a racist for them commenting on their lived in experience,

The poorest always suffer at the hands of the rich and “liberal elite, you being genuinely surprised at the poorest reaction to hotels, immigration, boats only further shows your detachment from the political reality that is in front of you.

I’ll also make it clear for you to understand, Farage is a shit as his politics, the sad thing is they’re all shit now and that is why we’re in the shit, absolute shit careerist PPE politicians who’re intellectually weak compared to all from 30 years ago, they’re all fucking shit.

That’s just apologist tripe. Go away and think about that again… you have poor people protesting and intimidating other poor and vulnerable people… and who does this benefit? Its simple. billionaire bankers (the economic elite) created the ever increasing wealth gap and have used political economic impotence AND the favourite of all ‘minorities’ as the scapegoats - and they find fertile ground where there has always been more deep seated prejudices. These cunts have merely emboldened folks to be less circumspect about them

But its not, its a reality you can’t face, Reform are here because the main parties weren’t, look at history and you’ll see for yourself.

Whether you like it or not, Reform are 12 points in the lead, its a reality you’ll have to face at some point.

You keep talking about the ‘main parties’ not delivering… yet fail to see that they have not really changed so have ‘failed’ to deliver for the last 120+ years. Yet we only see periodic uprising if right wing shite? 30s, post war, 80s, and now again… because its only when there is economic shite that the very people who caused it (usually the economic elite who have far too much influence over democratic governments) stoke it up - The only reason REFORM are anywhere in the polls is because sadly there are plenty of people who fall for this trick everytime their lives are more difficult.. The right wing elite cunts tell them migrants or foreigners or gays or gypsies or any minority that they think will have biggest impact are to blame. The only way we stop this is by calling this out. Sadly there seem to plenty like you making excuses for the idiots stupid enough to believe the shit being spread by cunts like Farage and Robinson… one can but ask why that is?

Not excuses, reasons, and immigration does have a huge effect on infrastructure, housing and the NHS whether you like it or not, a tough question, how many claiming asylum are doctors, nurses, engineers and other skilled industries? If they were why wouldn’t they come the legal route?

We’re not the only country having this issue, European nations are far more advanced in their right wing parties and divided societies.

You simply don’t know about it as it appears uncomfortable reading so you choose to ignore it, well that ain’t changing the reality.

That needs challenging. Immigration has only a tiny effect on infrastructure, NHS etc. There are currently about 100k asylum seekers in the UK system, out of a population of 69 million. That’s less than 0.2%. Net migration is falling after reaching a peak under the Tories in 2023. It is on track to halve this year.

When the policies of the ruling elite cause economic chaos, blame is always deflected onto the weakest in society. Brexit has cost us trillions (and hugely increased immigration.and lost us thousands of badly-needed workers, especially in the care and hospitality sectors) but no government wants to admit that, so blame immigration.

And it’s so easy to con so many people who are all too ready to have their prejudiced fed.

Who are entitled to doctors and dentists appointments on arrival, if you’re not saying that is to the detriment of people already waiting then I suggest you’re wrong.

If there’s no houses where do they go?

How did the Tories stitch up the Lib Dems in coalition? Tuition fees? The LibDems could have voted against and forced an early election. And it could be argued that their continued self flagellation over the issue at the 2015 election resulted in the referendum. Cameron thought they would come out and vote and dilute the chances of a tory majority and when they didn’t he had to make good on his promise of a referendum.

I agree the Tories are a busted flush and wont be in a position to get into bed with anyone, especially with the perpetually outraged Bollockbrain in charge. I hope the LD’s pick up some votes from some moderate tories, but fear they don’t have the drive at the top to really push it.

They sold their soul for a crack at power, and you’re correct they doubled down on tuition fees.

They thought they could compromise on tuition fees in return for getting some of their wish list supported, but it was bad judgement.

There was an agreement for a vote on PR, but a referendum was refused and both major parties obviously voted against in a Commons vote.

The Tories took the credit for everything they got through with LibDem support and blamed the LDs for everything unpopular or policies they didn’t implement.

As has been said, Cameron was very grateful that the LibDems blocked a referendum on the EU, but then managed to accidently get an overall majority so he couldn’t avoid a Brexit referendum, which he handled badly, underestimating the power of xenophobia and a campaign of lies, and the rest is history. As is the Conservative Party nine years later.

The whole tuition things is a joke though, only students who graduate and get a really high paid job actually pay back the fees. And then they pay back such a small amount each year with minimal interest. The loans then get written off after 45 years if unpaid.

Would have been better having free University places and a graduate tax set on earners over a certain threshold.

Saying that we’re now getting less and less students going to University to “study” noddy courses.

Once again you seem to have fallen for the very propaganda spread by Reform, that migration to UK is so significant.. As Shroppie points out its minor… if all boats stopped tomorrow and we sent back 1million migrants, do you think that all of a sudden the people in the Northern towns you seem to bring up as if they are hell holes of islamic fundamentalism, would suddenly be seeing a doc tomorrow and a reduction in NHS wait time or get a house/job?

Thatcher stopped building council houses and sold off the majority of stock… we have not built enough houses since 1980 (45 years). She was kept in power by the same swing voting regions that are now voting Reform…

… people would have right to be pissed off if what Reform spread about migrants were actually true… but its NOT. Its bullshit and sorry but there comes a time when you have to call out people as being too ignorant to find out the facts or dont want to as it justifies their long kept silent bigotry in their small minds

You’re ignorant of yes Thatcher sold the houses so we don’t have any but making a shit situation worse by adding fuel to the fire hardly improves it does it?

Where will the the houses go seeing as we can’t build a trainline in 30 years of trying, we’re a joke of a country where appeals are a major industry,

Thatcher made socialists tories overnight with that, selfish Labour voters who sold out the next generation (can’t blame them but its the truth).

No, on immigration in the north, that ship has sailed and we’ve now divided segregated towns and elections on sectarian lines. They’re facts by the way.

You’re behind the times and simply throwing blame out, that doesn’t change the reality and you’re sounding like a child, we’re here because we’re here and the reasons are many, snake oils salesman, no housing, no jobs for life, no social cohesion and much much more.

You’re sounding like an MP not willing to admit that.

Again, you need to check facts rather than listening to the propaganda.

Illegal immigrants are only entitled to the most basic of free healthcare: A&E and emergency treatment. They can register with a GP but may have to pay for treatment. Likewise with dental care.

And although they have to be given temporary accommodation, they get no priority treatment and it’s doubtful the accommodation they get would be acceptable long-term

Just on building houses, I can’t believe the current lot have staked their reputation on building 300,000 a year (on ave) during their tenure. Firstly, they don’t build. Secondly, they have missed that target in year one by about 33%. Thirdly, they’ve only just released their proposed changes to the planning system. Lastly, there aint the labour or materials to “turbo charge” the housebuilding sector. And if there was, you’d see inflation rocket in the industry and house prices rise.

All of this without considering the effect of the red tape and hurdles to jump before getting to site. We build houses for rental. We’ve got one site which has 6 houses on it - knock down a building that is vacant and build 6 new houses for rental for locals. So far our Client has had to pay for planning submission, design and access statement, ecology survey, environmental impact assessment, site investigation report, landscaping survey and report, arborcultural report, topographical survey, highways pre assessment, 278 access road design and assessment, remediation survey, asbestos survey to existing building, party wall awards, architectural design, structural engineering design, drainage surveys, SAP calculations and acoustic report. This is before the council get involved and the conservation officer wants £20k extras because he doesn’t like how something looks on one facade and the highways want £34k to assess the simple access road moving 2 metres to one side and will take 6 months to look at it. And this whole process has taken over 2 years to get to this stage. We’ve not started building yet. 6 houses, not 1,000. FFS.

A question - if they turn up with nothing, and cannot work, who exactly is paying for this treatment? Or do we turn them away?

Agreed that if it’s deemed a genuine emergency and they’re destitute, they’ll get treatment.

All I said was…………People arriving can been seen by a doctor and a dentist, this quite obviously adds to the waiting list.

Housing once again, if we can’t house what we have quite obviously there is going to be tension, tension leads to where we are essentially.

What waiting list? There’s no problem at all getting GP or dental appointments in Britain, ask anybody. Anyone who says there is is a far right racist.
