Oh, and Pap, I occasionally downvote a post (not the one on this thread that you’re referring to) because I thought the facility was there to express your opinion that you didn’t agree with the content of the post. I use it when I disagree with someone but don’t have the time, inclination, or willpower to get into a long and fruitless argument with someone who I feel is so completely blinkered that it’s a waste of my time even engaging with them, but I feel they’re SO wrong that I have to express myself somehow. (Again, not necessarily Barry, before anyone jumps to conclusions.)
Sorry if I misunderstood the intended purpose of the downvoting option… perhaps you should change it to ‘report post’ or something if it’s only meant for admin purposes?

We’ve got a report post option already, but tbh, I’d rather see the site flow and see downvotes used than get involved in a load of opaque discussions off-board. It is there if people need it, as is the PM function.
That has historically been the way downvotes have been used though. Personally, I wouldn’t employ downvoting the same way you do. In that scenario I’d probably not bother, returning later when I’ve the time to do it justice. It’s up to the individual though, and it’s just a request.
