For betting, stupid idiot, plans to appeal the length of the ban though.
What are the odds on him winning his appeal against the length of the ban?
What a twat.
#notnews
it will allow him to focus on his Twitter career.
He made well over 100o bets. I canāt see he has any grounds for appeal. He is complaining that it virtually ends his career. Point 1 - no bad thing. Point 2 - perhaps he should have thought of that before he ignored the rules?
So while he is banned for 18 months (a totally over-the-top penalty) whatās to stop him betting on matches?
1260 bets placed over a period of 10 years, so 126 bets a year on average. Quite prolific. Barton said he is addicted to gambling. Why not gamble on the horses then, or in a casino? Not terribly bright betting on football matches when you know it is against the FA rules.
It was 15,000 bets. The 1260 was just the football ones.
Edit: And that was just his Betfair account. You canāt tell me he didnāt have others. Iāve got like 6 betting accounts, and I hardly ever do bets.
I wish I had a ban on betting. Saying that I just withdrew Ā£300, from Ā£20 deposit about 3 months ago. It was as high as Ā£580 though. Going to have a break for a bit nowā¦
⦠until Saturdays accy!!!
Iāve probs told this story before, but I was chilling in the communal living space of my NI digs. Norn Iron are playing Russia on the telly, and they contrive a win.
The bloke next to me had an accumulator on, and looked ashen faced.
āWhat the fuck, mate? Itās just an accumulator?ā, not expecting the stake to be too much.
āIt was 300 pound, and I got it from the Wongaā
FFS. When the fun stops, stop.
So Joey has written a rather long response in relation to his ban. He says that he only bet against the team he was playing for on a āhandfulā of times and on āa few occasions.ā The FA are talking about 30 incidents. He also said that every time he betted against his own team, he wasnt playing and wasnt even on the bench, so could have no influence over the result. But, as in insider trading, he would know the mood in the camp, how training was going, who was carrying an injury, whether the team were up for it. Why did he not bet on them to win? Always to lose apparently. Not clever.
Dissatisfied that being just an āokā footballer was probably his limit, Joey Barton has has worked hard to promote his bad boy persona, it being his only route to stand out from the crowd and gain some recognition.
Congratulations Joey, your wish is now reality ⦠enjoy your noteriety
Not sure he consciously cultivated that image @steveintheforest . I think heās got a self-destruct switch that trips every time something starts to go well. Fucknut, him not youā¦
Iām sure youāre right Cob but he certainly seems to embrace the role of pantomime villian and makes the most of it
For all his efforts to portray himself as the thinking footballer, ultimately he is just a thick twat.
Stupid thing to do, however, I do think 18 months is extreme. He also has an addiction, which for anyone thatās ever dealt with one is something that can render one unable to reason with what theyāre doing.
Hell end up getting 12 months IMHO.
I donāt thik the sentence is too harsh - he bet against his own team (albeit he wasnāt on the bench) He was still using inside knowledge - this is far worse than just betting on other games. Addiction or not, what he was doing needs a significant punishment. You donāt go easy on drug addicts because they are nicking to fund their habit so why should he get more lenient treatment because of his addiction?
Anyway, this is just one example of his stupidity. Stubbing cigars out in kids eyes, various assaults (on and off the pitch) etc give you the true measure of the man.
Hopefully even if they reduce the ban to 12 months his career as a player will still be over. Mind you we wont be rid of him as he seems to have a new career as a pundit in the media lined up. Can you imagine him and Roy Keane together in a studio? It is taking care in the community to new levels.
Too harsh because he had an addiction? Not a chance, heās been doing it for 10 years for nirvanaās sake!!
