The content of the video doesn’t reflect what I’m looking to achieve in my trip to Austin, but I wouldn’t rule it out either. :lou_wink:

Hey Lou

I don’t think we’ve spoken before, but if you find yourself in Austin (and I think you should go for it) then I recommend you should contact these guys.

I don’t know whether you’re an atheist or not, but they will provide support and maybe much needed friendship whichever.

Thanks, Ex-Trader, could be useful! I do have a few muso friends in Austin so I’m hoping to not be too isolated. But these guys must have patients of Saints to survive in Texas!

“Texas, oh that’s where I belong it seems to me”

All the best, Prairie Rose!

Monday is my decision deadline, but I’ve now told so many people I’m thinking about handing my notice (including by boss and drunkenly half my industry last night) it’s gonna be hard to back out of it!

Not really. This decision is for yourself, and yourself only, and people will only support you in it. Perhaps, and I’m not sure if you can do this, talk to your company about taking a sabbatical, and using that to do your Texas thing? They may be far more willing than you think, and it gives you time to decide what you really want to do.

I did a sabbatical a couple of years back, but I think the driver for the Austin thing is that I want change, not just a break. I’m 99% sure it’s the right thing to do, but so hard to leave somewhere I’ve become attached to.

Before you decide Lou you might want to reread the What Is Wrong With America thread on TSW!

Well if that’s the case, sounds like an amazing opportunity.

The only thing I would warn against, is that Texas is the complete antithesis of your political and moral mindset! But then you have to experience these things, and it probably isn’t anywhere near as bad as it’s made out to be.

Austin, Texas is great, I got lucky with some transgender on 6th st, it will haunt me forever but we laughed afterwards…

That’s a really interesting and relevant article, thanks for sharing!

My girlfriend’s struggling with this at the moment so I’ll get her to have a read. The trio of incorrect messaging from parents, unrealistic ideas provided whilst in education and ‘Social media image crafting’ have done a lot of damage to our generation’s level of fulfillment.

People can’t do ordinary jobs anymore, pride has forced us to believe we are better than we really are, a lazy overweight Nation reliant on cheap labour from elsewhere.

The social media thing annoys me immensely. I rarely use Facebook now, for me it’s only for arranging stuff and sharing things I believe in, but it tends to be a bragging tool for most, and gives an unrealistic representation of life.

Oh I’ve been to Austin before - it’s a complete hippy music town. The antithesis of the rest of Texas!

Barry wins for best story!

Glad to hear it. Don’t know much about it (apart from it being the capital), and I was comparing to Dallas-Fort Worth.

I absolutely loved that article and it so struck a chord…
