Jobs

Boring suject, but… has anyone ever left their job without another to move into? Ever regret it? I’m on the edge!!

Well as you know i have!! My most recent job was an absolutely awful environment to work in, so I quit. Was it the sensible thing to do? Probably not? Do I regret it? Nope. The work I do and skills I have mean I knew I’d get something else. Start a new role on Monday.

Do it Lou! You can always shack up with some rich bloke if it all goes tits up!

I resigned from a company without having another job to go to. I wasn’t enjoying it, and they had some fairly onerous contractual clauses built in, such as having to give two months notice after four months service, so I handed my one month notice in without somewhere else to go to. They kept me on for a couple more months as a contractor. By the time that was ending, I found work in NI, which has kept me busy thereafter.

I’d always try to have a job while looking for a job, so my advice would be to keep going until you find something else. However, I did it, and don’t regret it a bit. The long term consequences have been superb in my case.

Yes, and that was brave, but the awful environment forced your hand.

Would you ditch a decent job for nothing else other than an eleven year malaise… ?

Ha! I’m not quite the vixon I make out I am, you know. I have trouble pulling a bin man at the moment!! :lou_lol:

Just tip him towards you as you bump him up the kerb.

Thanks Pap. Appreciate the advice. I hate that I’m being so cautious at the moment.

I couldn’t ever see myself leaving a job without first having another one to go to first, but that’s just in my nature…not a big risk taker me!.

My other half did just this about 6 months ago. He’d been headhunted but his departmental manager didn’t understand the protocols of drug manufacture (the legal sort!). It drove him to have a breakdown and it’s taken him this long to recover.

However, he’s having trouble finding work now. The problem is, his skills are so specialised.

Yup, and that’s my big time worry.

Sorry to hear that Ruth. That must be a tough experience to go through.

Well, that and not being able to afford to buy beer. :lou_sad:

Either you’re happy or you’re not, doesn’t really matter what the reasons are.

That being the case, you either doing something about it, or just put up with it.

That, Spudders, is excellent advice. I shall ponder on it.

I haven’t left a job without one to go to (apart from when I went back to Uni). But I was very near to doing that last year and would have even though I didn’t quite have the 2 years under my belt that would have helped me get a job via an agency. I’d had two interviews in London and had been employable but not the top candidate. Thank goodness both then came back to me as people had dropped out. For my sanity I would have left my job without another one to go to. I am getting to a point where I need to move on again. Love my colleagues just not the bureaucracy that comes with the job.

You’ve not been in London that long, have you Intiniki? How have you found the experience?

I’m back to London Sunday evening :lou_smiley:

No, but I lost one job in March. Started one in April and then lost that in August! Still trying to secure another…

Just shy of a year now. So far not hating it. Which is pretty good for me. My partner is buying a flat so we will not be at the whim of landlords/ladies who want to sell after 6 months. Commute on the bus starting to tire. Get to lots of gigs, lots of architecture treats for me to look at, am plus one for a few friends so get to go to some arty stuff too. My work life balance is actually better here than when I was in Dorset/Hampshire.
