The acceleration of our demise is a wonder to behold(really, blowing scientific modelling away with its speed), although a little worrying.
So for anyone that canât get their head around young people and the dawning realisation they have been forced to confront, a harsh reminder(stop asking Greta and start accepting).
âYes, Greta, they are evil; they have access to every expert on the seriousness of the crisis and they are building walls and saving their own skin while continuing business-as-usual. Lest we forget, the fossil fuel industryâs own scientists accurately predicted the life-threatening effects of its product decades ago and not only did they do nothing to stop it, they funded and orchestrated a vast network of climate denial propaganda which continues to this day and have raced to exploit even more fossil fuels from the melting Arctic. When you consider that billions of people are going to die as a result, their actions become by far the greatest crimes against humanity ever committed. Make no mistake, our society is trading a livable planet for an unsustainable way of life that is irreparably depleting finite resources and altering the earth for eons, making it uninhabitable for organized human societies. Each day of business-as-usual further degrades the planetâs biodiversity.â
Iâm glad someone read it. Mike is a really good writer with an excellent knowledge of the subject and the ability to connect some of the multiple threads that make up the whole mess weâre in.
For a good explanation of our complete addiction to energy and the problems that has brought us(all of them basically) these videos are very good.bite size chunks made for first year college kids.
Good article that reminds us that the problem is how we live now, not how to live the same just with different energy sources(which wonât happen).
Iâm shocked with some of those figures iâve got to admit. We often forget all the other issues when we concentrate on the oil/coal/gas issue.
The bit I object to on the oil / gas electric car bit is the fact that they are mostly plastic and steel builds require oil / gas to make them. They still require lubrication oil out of the ground for them to run.
The carbon footprint to make an electric car battery is nearly the same as running a diesel car fo 10 years and that is before you have charged it up from a gas or coal fired power station.
All part of the business as usual lie, that makes people feel better about destroying their own childrenâs futures, for something unneeded but heavily marketed.
At what point in our destruction do we turn on the people leading the charge?
This is a bit long for some, but just the first 5-10 minutes should shock you to the core.
Whatâs the value of nature?
If you watch a bit longer you get to see how much a fly that lives for a couple of days, does nothing of interest and then dies is worth.
That bit really does confirm that madness is complete.
The bit I object to is that we now need to improve the electrical infrastructure for all these green solutions powered by smaller generation systems.
Yet the switchgear uses toxic materials more Copper has to be mined for the cabling.
Meanwhile in the real world it costs 3 months salary to convert a fossil fuel hot water & heating system used by 80% of villages across Eastern Europe so nobody stops burning fossil fuels.
And do you honestly believe low cost labour Nations can afford Electric or Hybrid cars? They will be driving your Diesels in Asia for 20 years.
Local action & debates make you feel better but it is NOT Global solutions.
Oh theyâre not the best veggie sausages. Try the vegan swirl ones from waitrose. Even my mum (from a farming family) will eat those without a complaint.
X/R people have glued themselves to the lib dem bus.
I know these people have good intentions and are willing to fight for their cause, but there comes a point when every sane person says âenoughâ.
âPolice blocked the road, establishing a cordon to keep people away from the bus. But when Swinson arrived she was allowed to speak to activistsâ
St Greta is currently sailing the Atlantic because she doesnât agree with air travel, however because sailing the Atlantic in November is not light undertaking, they flew a skipper from the UK to the US to help
Thought of your comment when i read the below linked article.
âYou know when Greta gave her last speech in the U.S. ⌠at the UN in factâŚ(where she flubbed her lines, saying creative PR and clever accounting. It was meant to be creative accounting and clever PRâŚbut learning lines is tough) she sailed back to Europe. The captain had been flown in to sail the yacht on its return voyage.â
Although the bit that stood out for me(considering whatâs just happened here) was
âThe infantilism of the western public is well prepared for child leaders.â
Itâs not a perfect article and the first third might be hard work for some, but it does give a better understanding of Morningstarâs work and also quotes Jimmy Wuâs article, which is worth a read.
âItâs time, then, that we started to be precise about what exactly is at the root of the mental health crisis; itâs time we identified this system by its name: capitalism.â
