Coming out in the macho world of Professional Football is pretty brave but Iām pleased to say he did it here. Itās speaks well of the spirit of the club, that he felt confident enough in the community spirit of the people he works with.

Do we ever think weāll see a time when ācoming outā doesnāt have to be a thing? People can just be what they want? Personally I couldnāt care less about this. If everyone was like me the world would be a better place.

It shouldnāt be a story, but I guess it is because of the environment in which he works.
Who gives a fuck if he is gay - the fact that he is apparently a decent bloke and good at his job and is all we should need to know.

I live in hope that, one day, no one will know what ācoming outā is because everyone will be comfortable with who they are and so will the rest of society. Football still has some way to go. If it can happen in rugby, it should be further along the line in this sport.

I just think that a national newspaper think it newsworthy shows there is a preconception that in the football world itās still an issue. I tend to agree, football is lagging behind a greater section of UK society in accepting it so by that token, itās a good, positive story.

I doubt that tbh, I doubt that football & footballers are less PC than most other equivalent cross-section of society. If I was a gay nervous coming out, Iād prob be more relax bout it in football than i.e. the construction industry. Most of my lads on the tools still talk like itās the fkn 70s.
Crowd reaction i grant you is still Untested, but I think it would be fine & any dickheads causing trouble would be dealt with v.srs.

Around the time that slavery ended in the US black people, who were technically equal, had to adopt all manner of appeasement strategies.
I imagine about that time you could find black people laughing at white peopleās jokes that today weād find appalling.
Just wondered whether Hugo was being an āUncle Tomā and using humour to deflect.
Bottom line is I found it funny and I laughed.
In 100 years time, Iām guessing that suggesting another person is gay when theyāre not will be thought of as weird and not funny.
Itās cool - and hopefully itās a small step forward in a sport that needs to catch up.
