Tom Alsop (1) has been trapped lbw by Ryan Sidebottom - Hampshire are now 9-1. Hants skipper James Vince is the new batsman.

Well that’s going well.

224 all out is my guess.

That high??

And you didn’t think it could get any worse :-

BBC Radio Solent’s Kevan James at Headingley:

"The Hampshire management may have to make an early call as to whether they bring in reinforcements in the form of loan players.

"Before the current game against Yorkshire, Gareth Berg (knee, 4-5 weeks min), ReeceTopley (hand, 6-8 weeks) and Ryan Stevenson (back, month or so), were major problems, plus Jimmy Adams, maybe another week or two with an ankle injury.

“Today, Chris Wood has limped off with a recurrence of a knee problem, and Liam Dawson didn’t bowl today due to a stomach injury. With only 18 professionals at the start of the season, Hampshire’s resources already looks threadbare.”

Just like Avram Grant on an industrial estate, I’m expecting a few extras.

Sure we’ll be about 60-5, but someone will dig in…

That’s a big blow for Hampshire as Michael Carberry edges and Alex Lees dives to take a really good slip catch. IT’s certainly been a good day so far for Liam Plunkett.

Urgh. :lou_eyes_to_sky:

I know he’s still a young player, trying to carve out a career for himself, and I hate having to diss my own players. But I just don’t see enough there in Tom.

If enjoying a career as an Opening Batsman is his aim – then he’s certainly going the wrong way about it.

See off the new ball please Tom. And try not to let it hit your legs in front of the wicket. :lou_facepalm_2:

Fuck sake. Go out for a few hours, and they start dropping like flies.

We really miss Gareth and Jimmy already. Adding Liam to the list is not good at all. Be nice if it gives Mase a chance, but - can he bat? Probably not as well as Liam, for sure, and whereas I was really looking forward to seeing Mase get some games, our batting line-up is already looking very short as it is.

I hope Liam’s “stomach injury” is nothing more serious than feeling sick to the stomach at our general bowling ineptitude today.

Vince needs score to make Test case

Hampshire 53-2 v Yorkshire 593-9 dec

BBC Radio Solent’s Kevan James at Headingley:

"James Vince (26*) is coming up to 90 balls faced, which is not his normal game. He and Will Smith are fighting hard to keep out the Yorkshire attack.

"Vince is just about the only batsman with a realistic claim to a Test place, not to have a big score under his belt even at this early stage of the season.

“Last month Vince, who was part of the England World T20 squad, passed up an opportunity to enter the IPL auction because he wanted to give himself every opportunity. This game - and with Hampshire in this situation - would be very timely.”

Vincey is putting in a decent effort in that regard. Unbeaten on 76 at close of play.

Hants finished on 141-5, after sending in James Tomlinson as a night-watchman.

Which worked out fantastically well, as he lasted all of six balls before being caught on 2. :lou_eyes_to_sky:

We are quite Toilet.

Not quite my dear Bucks.

Toilets facilitate the removal of turds.

We seem to specialise in collecting them; and it seems that we’ve run out of polish.

💯 for @ vincey14! Fantastic knock - his and Hampshire’s first century of the season in 173 balls (15 fours). 👏

Oh, hants are currently 175-5, trailing by 418 runs!

Is this day 3? Surely we can get another draw then??

Is it to early to dream of being unbeaten after playing Warwickshire and Yorkshire?

Probably!

Nice Ton James. Well done!

Yep, day three. I think Yorks possibly ended up declaring too high, thinking they had enough not to need to bat again (they’re probably right, lol), but whether they’ve left themselves enough time to bowl us out twice, remains to be seen.

If we show some character and bottle, and our openers can actually manage to see off the new ball in the 2nd Innings, we could still yet have a chance of taking a few points from the game with the draw – BUT – (it’s a rather large butt) that really all comes down to us, and whether we can resist the succumbing to the “Hampshire Way”, of chucking too many wickets away cheaply.

Battle hard and dig in, and who knows? Do the usual, and collapse, it could be over by lunchtime tomorrow.

This session up to lunch will be massive in deciding which way it could swing. If we lose a few before lunch, and they can clean up the remainder of the innings before tea – leaves them a session and then all of tomorrow to bowl us out for the 2nd time.

If we do manage the draw – it will be more because Yorks overestimated our abilty and declared on more than they really needed, thus leaving themselves short on time to complete the job.
