Exactly right!

It’s a revelation isn’t it.

I still occasionally have to cook what we call “dirty bolognaise” though because YoungAdults#1 & 2 still haven’t weaned themselves off the student mince and mushrooms version.

Just had a beef stroganoff, cooked according to Felicity Cloake’s recipe, served with fresh tagliatelle. Her recipes, I find, are always excellent, and this is no exception. The only difference was that I used Dijon mustard, as I’d foolishly neglected to check whether we had English mustard in the house (we did, but only in powder form). I’d say it wants a stronger mustard to give it that extra bit of zing, but it was, as Peter Beardsley’s wife would say, fuckin’ lovely. I don’t often eat beef, but I really enjoyed that.

Funnily enough I use chestnut mushrooms.

We tend to have it with rice rather than pasta, but on a winter’s evening mash can’t be beaten.

Chestnut mushrooms for me too - better flavour and less liquid comes out of them. I reckon it would be great with mash, but next time I do it I’ll have a stab at straw potatoes - presumably you need an implement for that, as you sure as hell couldn’t do it with a knife.

Straw potatoes? You mean posh thin chips? :joy::wink:

Bullshit. Beardsley’s wife would say “get me some poachies you spooky doyle”

And then, “no, I haven’t nicked your wallet”

I am coming to the conclusion I married the wrong man, Mr Tigger doesn’t even know where the kitchen is

We’re all tied to the kitchen sink by our apron strings (except @PhilippineSaint, where it’s an oil rig in the middle of nowhere )

Always has to be HP Sauce or equivalent with Pork Pies even though I eat English Mustard with everything else.
Ah well Bacon & HP
Sausages & Ketchup

Haven’t seen a Pork Pie for 2 years or more

The perils of choosing youth over experience, Tigger. You should have asked yourself “well, he might look pretty, but can he cook a cherry pie?”:grin:

I think the next thing I’m after making is authentic Texas chili. No beans, no tomatoes. Going to be interesting to see how much that bastard deviates from what we’d call chili con carne.

The choice of chilli peppers will tell. Heat isn’t all. Choose wisely

For a moment, I read that as Venice and thought what the fuck is he doing out there :joy::joy:

Just cooked this.

Too much bay leaf in the recipe (halve the amount)

Very fatty(I even used good quality low fat +90% coarse ground meat pork sausages) - it’s not a recipe if you are slimming.

Used mixed beans. No flatulent effect just yet…

Had it with fresh crusty bread.

I enjoyed the bread most tbf - didn’t float my boat.

Mrs C_S and YoungAdult#1 liked it.

Had a thoroughly enjoyable raclette meal with family last night. Basically an indoor table barbeque, very sociable and fun.

I first came across it in France when staying with a family in Paris. Recommended.

Dylan Moran nails the dinner party…

I cooked for my wife’s family while in Ireland. As they raise sheep it seemed appropriate to do a lamb dish.
I did this one and it was excellent. Took 5 hrs but worth it. Swapped the thyme for rosemary as they have a large bush of it.
