đŸ“ș GOOD SHOWS (no capeshit pls)

The Mandalorian.

It’s the new Star Wars TV show that centres on a bounty hunter. It’s very good; feels like a western in the Star Wars universe. Lots of great callbacks to the original films too. A very tight 38 minutes of television, with some genuine invention.

I’ve watched the first episode and whilst I enjoyed it there wasn’t an awful lot going on, lets see what the next one has to offer.

And @Polski_Filip I haven’t subscribed

I’ve seen the second episode. I am loving every minute of it, but there aren’t that many minutes of it. It’s much closer in style to the original films.

Like the originals, there are long scenes with sparse dialogue. I did it, but I do wonder if that and budgetary considerations are the reason that the shows are so comparatively short.

Anyone else on Name of the Rose on iplayer? I think I am struggling with it but maybe it is a good show.

Not read the books but quite enjoying it.

Seen the second episode, much, much more invested in it now

Those are not the only two options Filip.

I didn’t even realise that the BBC had made an adaptation. There’s a film version starring Sean Connery as William of Baskerville and Christian Bale as Adso of Melk (or Adsho, as William calls him). I might well have a look at that.

And I’d thoroughly recommend reading Umberto Eco’s original novel - it’s utterly brilliant.

It was Christian Slater. I saw the film years ago. I did try to read the book too but struggled with it.

Yes, you’re right - got my Christians mixed up there. Normally I just throw them to the lions, which saves a lot of confusion.

Persist with the novel; it’ll reward the effort.

Are you sure it wasn’t Terry Christian? One that could be fed to any willing creature.

At yes
1986 film - blinking flip a long time ago
would have been 16/17 and I recall getting a ‘little excited’ by the naked Valentina Vargas who played ‘the girl’

Let’s watch something stupid says Mrs P_F.
I find Dolly Partons Heartstrings on Netflix.
Stories built around her songs.
Well, after THAT Legends moment at Glasto we had to give it a try.
Tbh in feel & style it was all a bit Hallmark Channel but

Ep1 Jolene. Cleverly crafted but totally memorable for Julianne Houghs’ chest or was it her voice. Had to google her. An OK start.
Ep2. 2 Doors Down. An Oscar winner Melissa Leo playing the neurotic Mum at the wedding that is possibly the most falling apart wedding on TV. Clever, modern, addressing LGBT attitudes. This was corny enough to be a Hallmark Channel classic, but somehow just crept into lol land and left us smiling.

Pre Glasto I’d have ignored this. Now with Dolly being a magical memory, I’ve actually enjoyed this.

It also is a cracking idea, create shows based on legendary story telling songs and get the singer to play cameos.
But being non PC I’m gonna have an early night and dream of Jolene. Jolene, Jolene JOLEEE EENE

Guilt on BBC Iplayer with Mark Bonnar. Two brothers get into a bit of trouble and have to cover their tracks. But someone may not be who they seem to be. We enjoyed it. The first episode is on until Friday next week.
