When are the big screen remakes of Lord Snooty and his Pals and Biffo the Bear due for release?

No idea what happened to Biffo the Bear, but Lord Snooty turned his back on Hollywood for politics.

Maybe a small amount of that. But mostly just explosions.

This was cutting edge
in 1955
big budget, special effects involving people going Pshhhhttt
rattling tin cans and shouting
“There’s something out there, it’s trying to get in
Arggghhhh!”

I give you BBC Radio’s “Journey Into Space”
the adventures of Jet, Mitch, Doc and Lemmy

Gripping!

Gripping!

I’m listening to this now! It’s pretty funny!

It is Bearsy but I listened to it as a young kid and on the radio your imagination makes the pictures so everything is convincing on pretty much a zero budget. Listening to it again it’s hard to believe it was aimed at an adult audience
I found it pretty scary in places. It’s still a lot of fun.

Finished Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D season two over the weekend. Despite the cultural elite sneering at Marvel related shows, I’m impressed with what they’ve done. First and foremost, this is a Joss Whedon show, which is cool because he also in charge of Avengers, meaning everything is joined up. He also knows how to make good TV shows when they’re allowed to run.

I’ve seen pretty much every show he’s put on TV. All of it has been at least “good”. Some of it is fantastic. In terms of content, his shows tend to hit their stride toward the end of the second season, really picking up in the third. Buffy is a great example of this; at the start of the third season, we’re all totally in love with the Scooby Gang, completely invested in the show and have already seen one wrenching character moment for our troubles (the season two finale was excellent). Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D seems to be following this formula, as well as taking the traditional Whedon route of having a strong female protagonist at the centre of the show.

The first two seasons really centre on new agent Skye and her origins, introduces organisations like Hydra and groups like the Inhumans, really establishing a big universe to play in. The tie-ins with wider parts of the Marvel universe are there too; Asgard features, the Kree empire is referenced and central to one of the plots. The show also benefits from a lot of very good guest stars. Samuel L Jackson, Bill Paxton, Kyle McLachlan and William James Olmos all feature.

It’s really Marvel meets 24 for me. A lot of double-crossing, double-agents and big bads that don’t rear their heads until late on, but make total sense when they do. And hey fuck, it’s a Joss Whedon show that has done around four times the episodes of Dollhouse, the last thing he managed to get on the air. That can’t be bad.

Altered after the fact. That’s naughty, Bear. Besides, still no problem. I will not talk about Supergirl anymore. Everything else is cape-free.

To paraphrase the late great Palpatine.

“Only now, at the end, do you realise that capeshit was all that kept this enterprise going”

Just watched the last in the series of The Last Kingdom. GoT has raised the bar so much that it seems pretty tame in comparison. Also it looks to me that Bernard Cornwall has just rewriiten Sharpe for Ango-Saxon times. It was also very similar to Vikings which came out earlier this year. it was ok but cliche ridden and nothing special.

Can someone get sadoldgit some new shows to watch please? Left idle, he’ll just generate 80% of TSW content, and frankly, I’m interested to see who they’ll turn on next. We could even run a book, but we have to distract SOG with some really interesting shit first.

Dont worry, I am getting to the point when I cant be arsed anymore. It would be nice if a few different people would join in but going into bat against the Jolly Boys everyday is becoming tiresome. I thought it funny that LBA got around my ignoring the Jolly Boys by reposting though. Nice one. But, yes, I do need distracting please!

Just caught up with Fargo episode 9
WTF! Just gets better and better.

Most of my capeless capeshit is now not returning until the New Year. Loved the first season of Fargo. Will be making time for this one, although I will return with scorn if the hype is unjustified,.

Trust in us
we are smart enough to sign up for papsweb, so obviously recognise quality. It is very very good.

Fargo S2 finale was perhaps slightly underwhelming but it tied up a lot of loose ends and had a hell of a lot to live up to considering the antics in the previous few episodes! This series has been some of the best TV in years, truly outstanding stuff at times.

Also finished The Man in the High Castle today as well - another one that built up to an interesting and tense climax. Surely there must be a Season 2 to look forward to as there are a hell of a lot of unanswered questions and interesting characters to explore. One of my favourite characters was Obergruppenfuhrer John Smith, a cold calculating Nazi with the blood of thousands on his hands yet also a loving and committed family man - a really fascinating person to see into the life of and try to tap into his thought process. This show is packed to the brim with interesting and well-written characters, although I do think that the main 3 of Juliana, Frank and Joe were a bit bland. Would definitely recommend this bros!
