It was my garage Dyson 05 that had lost all its suck. I was ready to chuck it yesterday but I took it apart and cleaned every part. Iā€™ll go and test it later to see if itā€™s any better now.

Update: Took the Dyson apart this afternoonā€¦itā€™s funked. The flexible concertina hose has a split, (no not that sort @CB-Saint ) and is the reason for the poor performance.

I could probably get a spare part but to keep the local economy ticking over Iā€™ll have a look in the nearby Tech shop that sells used vacuums.

I did remember I had a Karcher compact vacuum in the loft. I retrieved it and tried it out. It came as a free gift with a Karcher Jet Washer with very good reason. It sounds like a chainsaw and blows out more dust than it takes in.

had the same problem with the Ayatollah. No amount of cleaning and washing has fixed the problem

I was true to my word, I bought a reconditioned Dyson DC05 which looks and operates like new.
