🗣 Gigs

Damn. 20 minutes of absolute bangers from Nile Rodgers and we aren’t even close to his Bowie/Daft Punk/Madonna stuff

Was rescued from the Rose Bowl embarrasment with a late ticket for Simple Minds/China Crisis at the Guildhall Square Summer Sessions.

Alas. too many beers at the Crics en route and I still haven’t seen China Crisis. At least this time the drummer hadn’t topped himself.

Simple Minds were OK. Prefered them 40 years ago, but I was probably closer to them then.

Hung in a catholic style

Flaunt the Imperfection was the first CD I ever bought…strictly vinyl until then.

Quite amusing watching this Bob Vylan thing unfold

Glastonbury has shat themselves having started the week as “we are a political festival and if people don’t like the politic then don’t come” to saying a line was crossed to now being utterly appalled

Some rapid reputational damage limitation going on there

Noel Gallagher has got it right - “play your fucking tunes and get off”

The only surprise to me was that they booked Vylan at all. I saw them a couple of years ago supporting Generation Sex, their stage rhetoric was very similar and utterly toxic back then. I don’t see how the organisers can claim to have been unaware of the likely content, unless they hadn’t seen them or heard anything by them.

So just to prove that despite my bad karaoke career, there is musical talent in the family, here is my Niece
Actually doing a weekend headline set at Glastonbury

Proud Dad still refuses the chance to buy an extra band ticket & go…

Emma has been Kates’ touring band lead guitar gor years noe

They struggled to get a record deal because none of the labels would touch them

Now their agents have dropped them - he was quire defiant this morning, I wonder how long that wil last as his bookings evaporate

I can’t think why. :unamused:

Maybe some perspective… I am sure the BBC placed these next to each other for that reason

I will never condone a call for violence but why so much noise over a Glastonbury nobody versus the ethnic cleansing and war crimes being committed by Israel…

So much should be commented but over the weekend it became vvery clear how utterly toxic any form of Social Media Discourse has become it simply and sadly better to just sigh.

An example was the Author & former Tornado Pilot John Nichol (the POW from the 1st Iraq war) he was a Fascist Cvnt for liking Rod Stewart’s set at Glasto.

Vylan were out of order - you cannot say things like that any more but the reaction has so clearly been hijacked

Like I said , they should NOT have called for violence, but its a fucking shit singer at a pop festival, not a a politician… who should be at very least should be calling theIsraelis for what they are doing

Indeed. It’s almost as if Israel had an official policy denying Palestine’s right to exist, completely one-sided.

Edited for accuracy if you ever read a middle eastern paper

The issue is that he said it to a crowd of tens of thousands whilst being broadcast to millions - he wasnt just some dick head at a pub gig

Actually the blame lies with Glastonbury- they chose to put a highly controversial act on knowing it would be broadcast

Any issue now is tribal - people take a side then back it in the same way as the support a football team

And even if you do have a counter argument worth listening to, then you are a bigot / terf / racist / nazi etc

It has definitely got worse - maybe a blowback from all the lock downs

Over here the blame is education. I have a piece of paper so I know everything.

Everybody is right.

And these days everybody is Right…

Listening skills have vanished and common sense is no longer taught. Mrs P_F has been watching that syndrome destroy a good business all year. And its especially prevalent in Krakow.

Me me me. With the political classes leading by example

Will all due respect that is Bullshit.

Education is critical to improving understanding and should continue to be encouraged. What you are suggesting is that young people may lack ‘wisdom’ to go with it which is nothing new, it has always been thus. You do seem to have a BIG chip on shoulder about those who have gone to higher education… often slagging them for knowing nothing… yet never providing genuine examples of how these underlings have got it wrong on your watch… should your ‘experience and wisdom’ not have been the guiding hand?

‘common sense’ was never taught (in schools) and has always been part of parental responsibility which may have become diluted… but how has a lack of common sense ‘destroyed a business’ exactly (you don’t explain)

And who exactly do you included in the sweeping generalisation of ‘political classes’ . This is the type of naive rhetoric spouted by the likes of Trump and Farage to undermine confidence in the political parties - whatever you believe the parties do wrong or right, this wee gem is just another ploy/campaign from…. the ‘wannabe political classes’

Vylan was stupid, with talking of violence. No excuse for that, but now we have the chief Rabbi jumping in saying its Jew hatred… which it was NOT, if anything it was Israeli hatred, but their Government never misses an opportunity to imply a critique of Israel and its government is antisemitism….

Meanwhile the media condemns him which is correct, yet not once dares to call out the blatant genocide and war crimes being committed in Gaza…

Well the twat has issued a statement not apologising but bemoaning the fact he is the story not Gaza

Well he made himself the story by his actions - probably intentionally so because that was the biggest audience he has played to

I suspect he doesn’t give a toss about half the things he spouts off about

Anyway it’s hit him in the pocket because his US tour is in the shitter and I cannot imagine many venues taking a risk with him - he is supposed to be playing Boardmasters later in the year
