🗣 Gigs

Spoiler alert…

If anyone’s seeing Jools Holland tonight at the Mayflower, here’s the setlist :grin:

Not seeing it myself, we’re off to P*rtsm**th guildhall for the Blockheads. Dr Feelgood supporting, this should be good.

Blockheads superb tonight.

As were the Feelgoods…

One thing I forgot to mention about the Ruts gig. Partway through one number, the singer/bassist said “God bless Keith Levene” and they switched to playing The Public Image, complete with trademark Levene-style guitar work. It was a really lovely gesture, and very moving. Got a proper lump in my throat :sunglasses:

Is dear old Norman Watt Roy still banging out the deep notes for The Blockheads? What a bass player he is, absolutely mesmerizing to watch live. Saw them a few times back in the day, remember a great night at the Gaumont round about the New Boots and Panties era, you never got less than your moneys worth with Dury and the Blockheads.

He is, but he’s not always available as his first band is Wilko’s. Nathan King was on bass last night, an able deputy. And yeh, I was at the Gaumont show all those years ago :+1::+1::smile:

Australian Pink Floyd at the BIC last night. Superlative, as usual. On a side note, having got tired of waiting for an hour after every fucking show to get out of the BIC multi storey, I booked a Just Park spot right across the road. Cost more, but well worth the extra fiver. :+1:

The Cure, Wembley Arena.

Majestic.

I envy you that one Scotty. A great band who, like fine wine get better with age. They absolutely stole Glastonbury in, I think 2019 when they closed the show on the Sunday night. Superb musicians with such a prolific back catalogue.

Most will not know them and they will not appeal to many, but I do like a good dance music act. Tinlicker at the Roundhouse, Camden last night. Cracking.

My first gig since lockdown on this coming Tuesday evening.
So where’s the best parking spot for The Joiners, haven’t been there for years.

Well my first gig since lockdown has now passed. Car parking was easy and the selection of beers was good, even the Nanny State 0%.

I was hoping Hamish Hawk would be good, he wasn’t, he was fantastic! Great evening, great crowd, great performance. This guy is on the UP…an Indi-music star in the making. :lou_lol:

If anyone’s interested, there are still tickets for Soft Machine at Wimborne Tivoli tonight. 7:30.

Canterbury’s finest. Them and Caravan, two stalwarts of the legendary Canterbury scene. I’m Canterbury born and bred, grew up there until I moved away at nineteen, members of both bands were originally in a band called The Wilde Flowers who were an excellent hippy trippy band in the sixties. Wilde Flowers were the first proper band I saw live, saw them many times at venues around East Kent, likewise The Softs and Caravan. Amazed they are still treading the boards.

Soft Machine was partly founded by the late great Daevid Allen, of Gong fame, another band from my youth who are still going in one form or another, usually fronted by Steve Hillage.

Steve Hillage is playing the 1865 on March 28th.
