No Bear, they got the gold back first. It was the grain and baggage wagons that got toasted. I do wonder why Dany hasn’t turned Euron’s fleet to toast too yet. Perhaps that will follow?

I think Littlefingers plan with the North/Starks has gone completely opposite to how he planned it - to have the North rally round Sansa. Sansa knows his scheming ways and is working with Jon now that he has shown trust in her by putting her in charge. Jon’s importance wasn’t expected by LF, and he looked annoyed back in series 6 when Jon was proclaimed King. He presumed Arya and Bran were dead but actually:

Arya is a trained faceless assassin with a shiny new toy, who will remember seeing LF scheme with Tywin at Harrenhal.

Bran is some fucked up all seeing kid who knows everything LF has been up to. And he won’t be won over by cool presents (like Robin Arryn was with his falcon) or by his rightful position as Lord of Winterfell.

However, when LF was watching the Stark kids together, there was an obvious raven squawk very close to him. One last grand plan?

Overall an exceptional episode! I think we all knew what was coming, but seeing and hearing the Dothraki and Drogon approach was incredible to take in. The ending scene put me in a really difficult position, I didn’t want any of them to die but you know it’s always possible with this show.

Presuming Jaime is rescued, I’d use him as a bargaining tool if I were Dany. Perhaps then if Cersei rejects the chance to save him and instead chooses to cling to the Iron Throne, he’ll see her how most others already have.

Was great to see Arya (one of my favourite characters) back with the gang at Winterfell, Team Stark is a formidible combination now.

There’s still so much to cover and only 3 episodes left! Where is the Hound and the Brotherhood? What’s Sam busy discovering? Can Theon be redeemed (again)? Oh and what about the huge army of the dead intent on killing everyone? What a show.

The longer it goes on the more I think that Dany is turning into her brother and this will be her undoing. She is becoming more obsessed about the Iron Throne and less worried about “ordinary people.” Sansa is the one to watch for me. She has been learning from the best and is showing real signs of leadership. The White Walkers look like they are about to come south of the Wall. That is when things will really start to get interesting. Somehow the main contenders for the throne are going to have to find a way to work together - but in doing so they will all have an eye on the final prize, so lots more scope for backstabbing!

The show takes a breather this week. A mate of mine, who’d spoiled himself up to episode six, described this episode as setup, and so it is. The show resolves the loose ends of last week’s cliffhanger. Spoiler. Jaime and Bronn are not dead. Not yet, anyway.

Vision boy Bran gets word around the seven kingdoms that the army of the dead is marching south toward Eastwatch. Whereas some might expect Daenerys to nip up there with the dragons, that wouldn’t have allowed the show to move as many chess pieces around. Instead, they contrive a plan to prove to Cersei that the army of the dead is real, with Ser Davos and Tyrion secreting themselves into Kings Landing, so that Tyrion can talk to Jaime. Davos has other business, and manages to find Gendry, one of the few bastards of Robert Baratheon that Cersei didn’t get with her Herod-like plan. All three sail back to Dragonstone, where Gendry meets Jon Snow for the first time. This is a fun scene.

The show confirms something huge in passing tonight. Sam and Gilly are busy transcribing memoirs when Gilly hits gold, and Sam completely ignores her to have a moan. The memoir reveals that Rhaegor, Dany’s older brother and CrSown Prince, had his first marriage annulled, and was re-married to someone else. Jon Snow is actually Jon Targaryen, legally. We’ll have to get a new title for the Battle of the Bastards if we’re being technical, because he is not a bastard either. He is first in line to the throne and doesn’t know it.

The scenes at Winterfell are pretty cool. Arya is not big on trust. She susses her sisters thoughts out succinctly, and she definitely does not trust Littlefinger. She has been following him about and keeping track of his movements and meetings, eventually finding a raven scroll from Sansa, in which she swears fealty to Joffrey. Littlefinger appears to be two steps ahead of her, clearly wanting her to find the scroll, setting the sisters apart. We shall see if he succeeds next week, I suppose.

There are a lot of reunions and departures in this episode, and lots of people moving from place to place. However, the huge theme of this episode is really the next generation taking charge, stepping into roles their fathers or forebears played, but in a much greater struggle. This is never more apparent than in the closing scenes, in which Jon Snow leads a party of men north of the wall. You’ve got Jorah Mormant, the former Night Commander’s son, Jon Snow, heir to the throne, Gendry, Robert Baratheon’s bastard, the Hound, now driven by new convictions, and what remains of the Brotherhood. Even Sam, who quits the Citadel this week, unwittingly becomes the only male left in his family in line. His dad and brother refuse to bend the knee for Daenerys and get barbecued by Drogon.

The new shall take over from the old. Game of Thrones needs to breathe once in a while and get its story in place. This was a good episode for that purpose.

I still want to know how Boris Becker got the gig as a big women that could take down a dynasty

It was a bit obvious that Littlefinger was ahead of Arya. How long will he stay alive?

@pap not a mention of Jon petting a dragon!

Not sure what went on with Jaime and Bron? They were by the edge of the river/lake but when they fell in it was really deep. They then emerge over the other side of the river/lake despite the fact that Jaime is wearing metal armour and Bronn has leather armour which would have weighed a lot when wet. How on earth did they get to the other side and how did Bronn managed to get both of them out of that really deep water? Hmmmm.

Also if you were Dany wouldnt you have torched Euron’s fleet by now? Perhaps they are saving that for next week. Cant believe there are only 2 more left in this series! When is the effing book coming out???

Did Sam miss the point, or is he completely unaware? Isnt it only Bran who knows about Jon’s parentage? As far as Sam knows, Jon is still Ned’s bastard. Of have I missed something along the way (which is more than possible)?

As for Dany, she would rather BBQ people than put them in chains? Hmmm. Perhaps the mad gene is in there somewhere. Looking foward to the Dany/Cersei face off.

Well, it’s worth mentioning that only three humans have managed to get that close to a dragon and be okay. That’d be Daenerys and Jon, both confirmed Targaryens. The third is Tyrion. Make of that what you will.

Tywin did say that Tryrion was no son of his, so perhaps he is a Targaryen as well? He had a fascination with dragons as a child,

You get the feeling that all three will ride dragons when the BIG battle comes.

I hope Tyrion has a saddle.

Soggy, the scroll will provide the ‘proof’ that Jon Snerr is no bastard and thus legitimate heir
The Tyrion angle is interesting though
Although trying to second guess this program is hazardous
they could wipe out Snerr,Dany and Tyrion in teh next episode and have Cersi ‘win’ before falling to the dead
fuck knows how it will end

Indeed. No doubt John will reunite with Bran soon and will be told of his parentage. Agree totally about second guessing. At the moment we can see that Littefinger is up to his old tricks, but will Arya fall for them? So far it is working but at some point you are thinking she will pull the face thing and catch him out, but is that just the show fucking with us again? Two more to go until we have to wait another year for the answers! Argh!!!

I think it’ll come out littlefinger is actually doing good, a dragon snape.

Oops, your Game of Thrones has leaked again.

Wowsers. The best episode ever, I reckon.

Yes, it’s very good stuff from a not so promising beginning. I won’t dwell on the holy shit stuff until others have gotten around to watching it, but I am very suspicious of this whole Sansa and Arya thing.

The show is making out like Sansa is edging her way toward killing Arya. I’m not sure I buy this, even though the final scene seems to up the ante.

I’ve got two theories as to other possibilities.

First, both girls are playing Littlefinger.

Second, Littlefinger is already dead. Arya is just wearing his face., and she’s trying to work out how far Sansa will go.

Interesting theories pap, but I’m guessing that LF isn’t dead. I’m sure there is something nasty in store for him. Agree it is an odd dynamic at the moment. So much to talk about but don’t want to spoil anything!

Maybe the show writers are playing the straight bat with this plot, but I thought the final gesture, Arya handing the dagger to Sansa, was interesting. The dagger is indelibly associated with Littlefinger. Arya has no reason to give it to Sansa, except possibly to pass on her meaning, which due to LFs spies, she cannot speak aloud.

Or perhaps Sansa and Arya have been conspiring all along in the crypts.
