On 2) I think youāve addressed that. Youāve said

Is it safe for me to assume that in answer to my question/task 1), it is just some snide remarks on pages 3 and 4 that make you feel Iāve somehow let you down?
(all of this against a backdrop of you recently calling someone a cunt and offering to fight them)

To me, forums are a source of light relief and I donāt normally get involved in the āseriousā threads. I read them with interest, have an opinion on them most certainly but debating is just not my thing. I tend to keep things under my hat, I find it makes life easier.
However things have got so fuckinā ridiculous on here that I felt drawn to contribute my thoughts on things in an attempt to calm things down a bit. Iāve been a bit taken aback by the bitterness Iāve been reading, the polar opposite to what drew me to Papsweb in the the first place.
Firstly Iāll fess up to being a Barry sympathiser over this. Iāve got nothing against Cherts, infact I like his direct approach to posting but I reckon heās been well out of order. Not especially for his paedo remark which whilst ill considered, was abuse hurled in anger in the heat of the moment. I fully understand that different people have differing sensibilities, Iām just not easily offended personally.
What has bothered me thoā has been Cherts unique brand of McCarthyism in relentlessly trying to out Barry as a a racist, which I donāt really see myself. Itās been going on almost as long as Iāve been on here and Iāve found it pretty distasteful at times with more than hint of bullying about it imho. So Barryās got concerns about the countries social wellbeing with immigration and interegration being part of it. So what, heās allowed to be concerned and whist he might not make his point very clearly, it certainly doesnāt make him a racist, something that heās tried to get across to Cherts on numerous occasions to no effectā¦
Anyway, itās a shame that Cherts has decided not to post anymore and whilst I hope he comes back, I wonāt be missing that spiteful side of him. Just my thoughts anyway and whilst Iām not expecting universal agreement with me, Iāve got it off my chest.
Finally, to Barry, how about we all put this to bed now. Everyoneās seriously fed up with the whole business and Sotonians morale seem pretty low at the moment. Christmas with all its joyousness (stress) is just around the corner and peace and goodwill to all men (and women) is pretty much compulsory. More importantly itās your first Crimbo with you new nipper, you need to be focusing on that instead of bickering on here mate.

I agree with much of what youāve written but not this bit. The fallout of the Baz/Cherts fight was dealt with with humour but many posters. Yesterday was an amusing day to be posting. Admittedly, after the humour it went a bit bitter, but there were definitely belly laughs from my end. I donāt see low morale. I saw a dispute that was joked about and dealt with well. That should have been a sign to end it all there and then but a couple of people prolonged the idiocy.

It bothered me too, and not just because of what Cherts was up to. It _might _have created a culture where other people laid into him as well, although I fully accept that Baz doesnāt need Cherts to wind people up.
Bletch has got the right of it, imo. The only thing Iād add is something Iāve already said; I personally downvote when I think something is for want of a better term, unSotonian (blimey now Iām into the McCarthyism). For example, when Cherts and Baz were spending pages calling each other cunts, they both got downvotes from yours truly. I wonāt downvote for an honestly expressed difference of opinion, even if itās delivered in an unwieldy fashion.
IMHO this thread has proved one thing.
This site needs a better way of showing quoted posts. It has done my poor head in trying to follow the Beltch v Bazza diatribe.

Iām open to that. The honest answer on development is that Iāve just got to get my arse in gear on Sotonians stuff. I am not a super-duper games programmer like a couple on here, but as far as general comfort with computers goes, Iām a Mongolian horseman born in the saddle.
Thereās loads that Iād like to do, and I should have some solid blocks of time to do it in the near future. Iām massively oversubscribed in terms of work at the moment; Iām working most of Christmas to get it all done. After that, it gets easier. The lovely thing about the new gig is that I canāt really do much of it when Iām not there. The crap thing about the old gig was that I never really got to switch off.
Another bonus of the new gig is that I can use my own equipment. Couldnāt in the other place. This means Iāll finally have a portable development laptop that I can do Sotonians stuff on.
Thanks to all that have impugned ye olde development skills in recent weeks. Underpromising and overdelivering should be a cinch.
