I agree @cobham-saint it’s a very loaded interview by Souness and I’m not even going to go there, regarding some of his grammar.
Hmmm … why has @cobham-saint come up in blue and yellow in my last post ?
Shouldn’t it be red/white ?
How could it be a non-partisan interview…both have an agenda to persue…not worth reading as soon as you see who’s involved.
Jose, I really don’t have an issue if you come out and say I left for more money - I get it, I would probably do the same, but don’t give it “the poor little me” bullshit.
I’m beyond caring about it all, to be honest. He’s gone, we’ll move on.
I think it is pretty obvious what happened. Reed’s job is to manage the players in terms of contracts. JF’s job is to play football.
Both of them failed.
Reed could have kept him untill the summer and he could have played the final but he didnt, and we lost the final because our defence was lacking.
we lost the final because we were cheated out of a goal
That’s one thing that really irks me and I picked up on it the other day, I earn a good wage and I have a confortable life with a decent house and the we don’t really want for anything.
Fonte currenlty earns more in a week than I do in a year. So in a year he will earn more than I will in 52 years!! So that one year of football should set himself up for life.
Our defence was lacing because VVD was injuured, a totally unforseeable occurence.
Fonte only really played a bit part during the seasonIt would be interesting to see stats about how we fared with Fonte in the team and with him out of it.
How do you know that Reed could have kept Fonte here till the summer? If, as has been suggested, Fonte had become a highly disruptive influence, I fail to see how rewarding this by paying him more money would have been a success on Reed’s part.
- He was on a contract
2 No one has said he was a disruptive influence, in fact Reed said the opposite
Puel said it had become unsettling with Fonte being around, (when he really didn’t want to be) and it was best all round for him to leave in January
Yes I think he was being pragmatic after Reed probably had told JF to ‘do one’ and ‘no player is bigger than me, oh sorry I meant no player is bigger than the club’
-
You’ve imagined that conversation
-
No player is bigger than the club.
MLT hinted that Fonte was acting the big ‘I am’ not befitting of the captain. I see nothing in that interview to suggest that this is untrue.
Preferred Yoshi playing alongside VVD this season anyway.
But it won’t keep them in Bentleys and Range Rovers for the rest of their lives @btripz and there lies the issue.
Shame on you. You’re not very understanding to the plight of the modern day footballer are you.
On a serious note, yes it fucks me off too. They act like they are approaching becoming brain dead and paralysed when they retire. I’m sure they could flip burgers or wash cars if they truly put their minds to it.

You obviously haven’t seen Neil Shipperley recently.

Good point.
