I don’t have a poppy. I presume that is absolutely fine with you. I’m not offended by anyone wearing one - that’s your right. And it is my right not to wear one. Just like I’m not offended by you wearing one, I assume you’re not offended by me not wearing one.
I find Barry’s Chamberlains insults quite confusing.
He’s famous for saying “I have in my hands, a piece of paper”. That’s basically half your modern poppy.

It troubled my mother throughout her life…she was 5 years old when he died in 1918…she always felt deprived of her father…11th of the 11th always upset her and I will honour her loss, her brothers and sisters and my grandmother who raised them alone.

It’s a FIFA competition, in which (mostly British) people voted for the rules concerning symbols. If we play in their tournament, we defer to their rules, or we opt to not play in the tournament. No lives, nations or acts of barbarity are offered, nor are they at stake. People can still observe remembrance (or not) without making a massive fucking stink about it. That’s the liberty my grandfather and his ilk fought for. Antagonism over trifling issues is definitely not.
Then allow them to be worn on this occasion as a concession and then never organise a game on the 11th November again for nations that want to respect it.
