“Boris Johnson’s portfolio of previous remarks - with his penchant for a colourful phrase - is likely to raise the occasional eyebrow overseas. In 2007, for instance, he described Hillary Clinton, who could be US president in a matter of months, as being “like a sadistic nurse in a mental hospital”.”
Yep, Bletch, within the context that you’ve outlined, I reckon that the appointment of ‘Man of the People’ Boris as Foreign Secretary is also a very shrewd move.
With the way he carries on, we’ll be at war with ten countries. The arms industry and associated supply chain will be booming
It may be a shrewd move, especially if she’s got the dirt on Boris and can curtail any leadership ambition for the time being.
However, I’ve a sneaking suspicion that he’s not really up to much apart from being Boris Johnson, haven’t been impressed with the reports from his mayoral stint, and if he replicates that form on an international scale, I’d be concerned.
I’m not his greatest fan either, Pap, but the fact is, he’s one of the very few Tories that appeals to members of other parties. Whether this appeal is justified or not is another argument.
Johnson on Obama (after Obama allegedly removed a bust of Churchill from the Whitehouse) …
Some said it was a snub to Britain. Some said it was a symbol of the part-Kenyan President’s ancestral dislike of the British empire – of which Churchill had been such a fervent defender,
he is either the punchbag for any Brexit criticism which can be deflected from the PM, or he’ll just cock-up and be unable to challenge her in future as he’ll look like a clown.
Not sure, but he is in the process of taking the UK Govnt to the EU court of justice over the retention of personal data. He brought the action with Tom Watson and Liberty. He is a committed Libertarian and not afraid to stand up and have a go. Will be interesting to see how he gets on with negotiating brexit alongside using the EU courts to rule against his party. He’s supposedly a very able and formidable politician, too.
The appointment of David Davis is a shrewd one. I’ve met him a few times at social events up north as he’s a friend of my F-I-L. I’ve always found him a really decent bloke. His politics are to the right on mine but I do believe he is sincere in this thought and deed. I’ve no doubt he will do what he thinks best for the country and not just the party or himself. He’s a rare thing in modern politics, a free thinker.
Fox is also a shrewd appointment regarding trade deals.
As for BJ, well, either May is the greatest troll of all time or it’s a case of “you fucked it all up; you fix it”.
