Glad the European Tour is still on…

Oh dear pompey lost

Yep they lose to League 1 whipping boys Cheltenham 2 - 1 Cheltenham scored all 3 goals.

Meghoma’s performance (albeit vs. a League 2 team) significantly better than anything Manning has ever turned in for us imo…

Was hoping a few youngsters would get a run out, looks like they didn’t disappoint :lou_smiley:

It was just the first teamers that disappointed. Smallbone, Alcaraz, Mara were all poor today for large parts of the game. Holgate and Stevens are a liability in the back line. Thought Charles did well at RB once the subs were made.

All the youngsters did really well. It’s a shame they just didn’t have the belief in themselves sometime. Meghoma really grew as the game went on.

Fraser a class apart and he looked gutted not to get that 3rd goal for the matchball.

Reasons to be cheerful

I went old school and listened on Radio Solent so couldn’t see them - Interesting commentary from Adam Blackmore / Joe Tessem about the youngsters fading as the game went on and being at that stage in their development where they are needing to step up / develop their skills and endurance if they want to be future £10m players.

Fair points I thought.

It appears these Sotonians were correct.

I thought Meghoma played really well. Offered plenty getting forward and worked well with Fraser on the left side, albeit against a side that had little pressing from their full backs. By contrast, Holgate was poor as a RB and never helped out SAA, preferring to stick, quite lost, in space with nothing to do. It was like playing with 10 men in the first half. Charles was much better when he went to RB. For me, Smallbone had a good game, was tidy and effective and always with an eye on covering the inefficiencies by Holgate on the right. Alcaraz tried too hard and Mara was pretty much left alone up front, but took his goal well. He was much more involved and played much better when he dropped deep after Che came on. Dibling showed some nice touches and Bragg look comfortable. Both had a bit about them and were tenacious which is heartening. Both CB’s did OK without being really tested. Fraser obviously the standout player and was a level above anyone else on the pitch. Could realy do with makiing him a permanent signing in the summer. He could be a key player for us in the second half of the season.

Agree on both counts, and I thought Bragg looked particularly at home when he came on.
