I know we’re bad at the moment @jxgrsaint but that bad??
Not really, we won the last game at Everton 3 - 1.
Treacherous Cunts.
A centre back with no attacking threat playing on the on the right. Midfielders unwilling to run or pass through the middle. An aging left back and a ‘winger’ who was just as bad running forward as he was backwards on the left. Zero service to our strikers. We deserved nothing form tonight.
Interesting point on Bertrand. At one point in the game I thought “when was the last time Bertrand went on the overlap?”. I was thinking a number of games, not just tonight.
I actually think that a draw wouldn’t have been undeserved, but even when we had those two really golden chances it just never felt like happening.
We have to get the three points on Saturday or we will surely be in trouble. I do wonder where the next goal will come from, sadly Danny seems to have lost his mojo, I do get the impression that his heart isn’t in it like it used to be. He was always smiling but now he just looks fed up. We do miss KWP, but maybe Walcott more surprisingly. In the period up to our topping the league he was ever present and causing problems running at defenders. He has never been a prolific goal scorer but he would be scoring more than Adams or Redmond. Adams just hasn’t kicked on, personally I don’t think he is a good enough striker at this level. He tries hard and runs his socks off but the quality isn’t there. Sadly.
To go on the overlap you need to play with some forward momentum, I’m just not seeing that at the moment. Redmond isn’t helping matters, everything he does right now has zero conviction, and it’s very frustrating.
I’m now all but convinced Ings will be off in the summer.
Ironically our best chance of keeping him is him continuing to play how he is and nobody actually wanting him. Go figure.
In fairness to him, when he has, Redmond has been selfish and tried for top corner pops that end up in Row Z. I would also be sick of making runs for no reward
3-0. Another of my favourite trips to my favourite ground.
Moussa MotM again for me.
Armstrong stepped up as DM but we lost his creative spark.
Can someone actually confirm whether Ramsay is a RB or CB?
IF he is a RB then pick him Ralph
I’ll take Barry’s mantle for this thread and say I think we were shit. Everton barely got out of second gear most of the game. Bertrand shows all the hallmarks of an aging player who has zero competition for his place. What the fuck Bednarek is doing at right back is anyone’s guess. Ings looks like he’s given up. Redmond frustrates the fuck out of me. Adams is low on confidence. Playing Armstrong as a DM is a waste of pretty much our only creative force. Ralph either needs to play round pegs in round holes, even if they’re academy products, or change the system to fit the players he’s got available.
Don’t think you need to waste your energy on that, I’d guess we’re all pretty much on the same page.
He is a right back and played there against United. Perhaps Ralph has seen enough and doesn’t trust him which is odd because they let Valery go because he was the RB cover and have just given him a new 2 year contract? I thought the whole point in having a well drilled system is having round pegs in round holes? Ralph seems to have players he trusts and some he doesn’t and is prepared to play people out of position even to the detriment of his own playbook.
I don’t think that Ings has lost interest. I don’t think he is 100% fit and has lost his edge at the moment. There were a few times when he got in the way of other players who were in a better position to shoot and it looks to me that he is trying too hard. When he was in form he made everything looks effortless.
We all know about the dreadful injury situation, but there were times before that where we were showing signs of running out of steam. I do wonder if Ralph’s high press high intensity system is sustainable, especially in the winter months in heavier pitches. We just don’t have the depth on he bench to rotate players and maybe that is the cause of so many muscle injuries?
All of this.
Except for the RB bit.
Reason for that is when he made his debut I read that he was a CB. In that game & against Utd he showed no signs of doing FB things having pace on the ball, touch or going forwards.
Hence why I asked, and still the only evidence is “he played RB” so has Stephen’s…
I was watching with my BnB landlady (Norwich fan) and every time Redmond got the ball I said “wait for it …” and he didn’t disappoint. Every time he got the ball and dribbled in whatever direction he was travelling, he lost the ball. Every. Single. Time.
The one good piece of play he made was the drive in to the box where he then cut it back in to a space where no-one was stood (!). I said at the time “why didn’t he just keep going ? He’d have drawn a foul and it would have been a pen”. Bugger me backwards, that’s exactly what Everton did to us just a few moments later … albeit it was not in the box. I think we’re just not sharp enough in our thinking. It’s almost as if they are so drilled by RH that they have stopped thinking “in the moment”. Shout out to the Great Dane who is fast becoming the next VVD.
He signed as a RB from Chelsea apparently and played there on loan at Shrewsbury.
Interwebby thing full of happy stories about The Saints today … BBC article just has recycled quotes but this was the most poignant bit of the article
Meh. We’ll all cheer up when we’ve won the cup.
