Root is cramping up and has just hit a huge 6 and then fallen over with cramp…

Some of the drone shots we’ve seen from recent tests have shown what lovely areas some of these cricket ground are in,

Galle next to the Dutch fort and between the sea
Chennai right next to the beach.

And as I type this Sibley is given out LBW, he’s reviewing for some reason…

200 partnership off 385 balls

Sibley plumb LBW for 87 (286), bowled by Bumrah the Everliving (his first test match on Indian soil BTW)

263-3

Last over of the day so that’s stumps…

That’s a shame. Absolute spear of a yorker to take Sibley at the end.

Hope that innings doesn’t get overlooked. He’s played really well.

Supersport SA came to the rescue!

How far behind is your stream?

Even when there’s an SA test via Pakistan on, wow…

Early start again.

Stokes starting to tick along nicely (currently 31*). He seems to have the ability to pick off a ball, seemingly at random and not objectively worse than the one that preceded it, and knock it to the fence. That’s got to play on a bowler’s mind; not knowing which of several almost identical balls Stokes is going to defend and which he’s going to nonchalantly loft back over his head.

India getting a bit desperate now. Just burned two reviews in quick succession that really had nothing going for them.

Stokes dropped catch! Calm down mate, no need for a silly wicket

There’s Root’s 150. Looks unflappable.

I’m alright with that. They’re half-chances, but he’s looking to push the pace. We’ve still got to get them out twice on this wicket.

And now 50 for Stokes. He’s going for it.

And nearly a sloppy run out for Root!

Sorry I am being negative, it’s early… :pensive:

The pitch breaking up, the toss and winning it are absolute key, I wonder how many times in India does the team batting 2nd win?

355-3 at lunch. Another really good session for England. As soon as the pitch started offering something to the junior spinners, Stokes took the attack to them and nullified the threat. Root happy to accumulate quietly at the other end.

That run-out opportunity was India’s only clear-cut chance IMO.

Stokes gone for 82, caught (just about, at the second attempt) at deep backward square. Made his runs in a hurry and was good value. 387-4 and in comes Pope.

What do we reckon would be a declaration score? I reckon about 100 more…?

Think it comes down to time. 525 is my guess (if we get there) but probably want to bowl tonight

Yeah, these two won’t score as fast. So maybe, barring a Buttler blast, around drinks break in the third session might be a good time.
