Ok then.
Bloody hell. I dip into a cricket thread expecting to join in a bit of celebration of a famous victory only to walk into yet another Baz rant-fest. See you back at the football.
Where have I ranted? If anything I have been provoked.
Of course. Yeah, right.
Read above.
But Goatboy didnât say he knew more than you about cricket did he? He just responded to you saying he knows âfuck all about cricketâ, by pointing out that he had played cricket for his county. Which in the real world means that no, you donât have to play at a certain level to be knowledgeable about the game, but itâs extremely likely that if you have played it at a higher level you will be more knowledgeable than someone who hasnât. Especially a game like cricket with all of its nuances, which you can only learn if you are there, on the pitch involved in the action. If you know anything at all about cricket surely even you must accept the logic of that.
I was replying to the fact he couldnât accept what I wrote as he was playing the poster not the post, England do play attritional cricket on the whole in test cricket, this was the reason of us playing later than when most would have declared, many on here were saying we batted too late, I merely pointed out this is our Modus operandi.
I think that in other tests in other situations we might have declared. But if you listened to Root this morning, the decision to carry on batting wasnât simply letting the game drift. It was based on observing the pitch deteriorate rapidly so it would be very difficult on the last day, not wanting to bowl too many overs on day 4 so that the ball would still be relatively new and hard when the bowlers were fresh at the start of the last day.
Plus what is now a standard tactic: remove any possibility of the opposition winning first. Then our bowlers can attack with freedom and the opposition are forced into a different mindset when they know theyâre only fighting to avoid losing. Thatâs not attritional. It was a clear plan that worked.
It was a great decision and I wasnât shocked by it in the least regardless of whether I agree with it or not, it makes no difference as he was correct, the ball that got Kohli proved that, you canât bat against that and he is the best of the best, as I said the other day the toss is so important as the pitches will go down hill by the hour, win the toss and bat.
This is dependent on winning the toss on the sub continent, UK wickets vary on the weather an awful lot more, swing and seam can change hugely on the cloud conditions, maybe only New Zealand has the same and even then only maybe Wellington and Hamilton.
Still no James Vince, who was man of the match in the Big Bash final, beating Livingstone along the way.
And donât get me started on Hales, top scorer in the BBLâŚ
Yeah, well he did sort of fart in the face of everyone with his 2nd failed recreational drug test.
Parallels to the Kevin Pietersen situation
Hales shot himself in the foot.
How many chances did Vince have?
Shit
Broad opening the bowling with Anderson then? That will be OK, Broad will be champing at the bit, he usually comes up with the goods after being left out/rested.
Great opportunity to keep Anderson in the side after his feats in the first test
Mark Wood will play.
They have a planâŚ
A bit difficult that as heâs not even in the country.
