O’Rourke gone for 19 going for an agricultural hoik giving an easy catch to gay
New Zealand 393-6
Stokes to O’Rourke, OUT**
whoops, a soft end to a tough innings! Stokes was hammering that off-stump length, and O’Rourke’s patience snapped. He tried to wallop across the line, but simply skewed his shot high in the air, for Gay to settle under a steepler at point. More reward for the skipper, but that was a very valiant hand from O’Rourke, whose 19 matched his previous career tally!
Will O’Rourke c Gay b Stokes 19 (38b 4x4 0x6) SR: 50
Santner gone
New Zealand 413-7
Stokes 150th test wicket
Stokes to Santner, OUT
Santner’s in a tangle to the short ball! The ball has ballooned off something close to his glove, for Bethell at gully to claw it down. He’s reviewed, thinking it’s forearm, but he’s gone! The third umpire reckons it’s hit the sweatband at the top of the glove, which counts for the purposes of bat extension… touch and go though, and a hard one to over-turn! Either way it’s Stokes’ 250th wicket!
Mitchell Santner c Bethell b Stokes 4 (12b 1x4 0x6) SR: 33.33
Controversial, it might not have hit his glove, just his arm guard…
Aggers was convinced it hit the edge of the velcro strap on the glove that was loose, so out.
Was a most enjoyable spell of commentary with the female commentator saying she was cold in the A/C box, Aggers saying she shoukd wear more clothes and ended on when she commented how it wasn’t nice when it went down the wrong hole and Aggers was probably carted out by men in white coats.
John Arlott would have been so proud

Just got to Southampton General for an appointment and
New Zealand are 435-9.
Good comeback from England considering the position they were in. Still think they’ll have to follow on though.
Just a reminder to all Cricket fans who will be starved of a decent game by this evening…the ‘awks is playin’ at 7 pm.

With the players out on the field, some pretty dramatic news coming out of the ECB.
Ben Stokes, the England Test captain since 2022, has announced he will retire from international cricket at the end of this Test.
The 35-year-old announced his decision to his team-mates in the Trent Bridge dressing room today.
Stokes is playing in his 122nd Test, and he also featured in 114 ODIs, winning the World Cup in 2019, plus 43 T20s.
We’ll have plenty of reaction to this story over the next few hours, no doubt.
