And
No.
He didnt
Throwing this away
And there we go, absolutely no need to have chased the ball like that, no footwork, silly shot, especially given the circumstances. And reviewing it was pointless, he must have known he nicked it. A captain’s innings was called for and he let himself down.

Bairstow misses a regulation stumping & drops Carey.
Foakes wouldnt have missed them.
A proper wicketkeeper is needed when standing up to spinners, especially at this level. With the best will in the world Jonny Bairstow is not a proper wicketkeeper. His errors today, especially the missed regulation stumping certainly changed the game, Green going first ball leaving Ali on a hat trick would have without doubt resulted in a totally different scoreline than we have seen tonight. Ben Foakes, or indeed any half competent keeper would have had those bails off in a flash, Bairstow was left mouth open wondering what happened. He is clumsy in the extreme, competent enough standing back to the seamers, but utterly hopeless standing up to the spinners. At this level you have to pick the best wicketkeeper available, and Jonny Bairstow is not even close. Pick him for his batting by all means, he batted really well in England’s innings and is worth his place for that alone. Foakes is arguably up there with the best keepers in the world and should be an automatic choice. As to who should be dropped to make way? It’s a tricky call but with Stokes looking OK and bowling well today I would suggest that Robinson’s 85 mph regulation seamers looking pretty innocuous and certainly not troubling the Aussie batsmen, he should be the one to make way.
The ball that Mo Ali produced to eventually castle Cameron Green was as good an off spinners delivery as you will ever see, described by one pundit today as a ball that Jack Leach could only dream about.
4th ball of the morning and Bairstow drops a thick inside edge, though one maybe but he should have caught it.
Anderson bowls an Aussie
Bairstow misses another one
Oohhh we got another wicket
