Trouble is the Unions had the energy and transport sectors held to ransom, give in to their demands or everything is switched off/doesn’t run. Also, as most things in the public sector, they were being managed terribly and making losses left right and centre.
The tories thought the only solution to this was to put it into the Private sector who would manage it responsibly, yeah right like that happened. All they managed to do was turn it into a money-making scheme for whichever company ran it.
Would bringing them back into Government control make them any better/cheaper. Would all the profits be paid back into the company instead of the “share-holders” pockets? Who knows, but something has to be done.

That horse has bolted - no way the govt will be able renationalise without having to throw billions at it - and if you tried to do it on the John Mcdonnel tough shit ticket, then you would be tied up in court for ever
Now if there were brought back into public ownership, I would still create an internal market - say 10 power companies, all govt owned, all managed separately and staff incentivized to generate the best outcomes, be that the cheapest unit cost per customer / return to the exchequer or whatever metric you desire

So, just checked our dual fuel account online. Seems we’re £1,144 in credit. There’s a message saying we’ll be in debit at the end of the plan so should consider making a top up payment - ffs 
We’ve also jut got the £66 energy discount but also as #youngadult#2 was signing on during the summer we got another £150 payment from HMG paid to the account
The latter payment is going straight to charridee
