Lord Bath who oversaw Longleat becoming such a major attraction in the South has passed away at 87 from Coronavirus
Gave so many great memories to so many families.
And still will never forget the Dr Who gig they ran. I all but crapped myself when a Cyberman clamped his hand on my shoulder while waiting to go in and listen to Tom Baker…
RIP
My wife used to visit his home with her cousin (who is the son of a former famous musician and 60s/70s party girl who also dated Bath) in the early to mid 90’s - she’s quite upset at this as apparently he was a great bloke, very kind and generous.
I know very little about him beyond his harem of wifelets at Longleat. But I do remember Jonathan Ross absolutely demolishing him on his old show, I don’t think I’ve ever seen anybody allow themselves to look quite so foolish as Bath did that night. It was astonishing, unfortunately there isn’t a clip on youtube.
This one is a bit close.
Richard was a DJ when I landed in the sandpit, in the days when radio there was populated by professionals.
Over the years he was deeply involved in the evolution of broadcasting, we eventually had a choice of English language.
He also got involved I the Concert/Gig scene, brought a number of huge acts to town before Live Nation & AEG (Whatever) carved the place up.
An actual expat legend who dead batted every attempted bad joke about his name with panache. RIP Richard
Yeah I’ll always remember, “Bobby Charlton came out for the second half and played with a nude vicar”
“I’m sorry I’ll read that again…Bobby Charlton came out for the second half and played with renewed vigour”
RIP Tim Brooke Taylor, The Goodies were such a part of my college years. Think they as much as Monty Python were responsible for my slightly bat shit crazy sense of humour
