Steve Bannon. has gone on record as using Trump as blunt instrument. He’s also in favour of a religious war with Islam. He compares himself to Oliver Cromwell in the stuart court and is no doubt behind the narrative of fake mainstream news. The media are the enemy. He’s a smart cookie and dangerous.
Sorry guys
Gregg Allman has passed away aged 69. A great band in their day, probably best known here for ‘Jessica’, which was the theme song for Top Gear. Brothers and Sisters was a great album, some quality guitar playing.
“Live at the Fillmore” was their seminal album from 1971…played that double album to death at the time.
I posted this in “The Chain” a few days ago…shows off Gregg’s soulful voice to its best…RIP Gregg.
Whilst Clapton took the praise for the guitar work on Layla, Greg’s brother Duane played much of the innovative guitar work on the track. Allman Bros - great band.
John Noakes croaks
Shep will be there at the pearly gates.
RIP Blue Peter’s intrepid reporter…another gone to fuckin’ Alzheimers at 83.
Awww. Grew up with him and Valerie Singeton (on the tv or course). Very sad. I also went to school with Peter Duncan, but that is for another thread.
The best Blue Peter presenter by a country mile. RIP.
He was 83, where do the years go. I am starting to look over my shoulder!
Goodbye General Manuel Noriega. Same age as John Noakes. I didnt go to school with either of them.
My friend passed away yesterday morning at a Hospice in Christchurh.
I had been looking forward to seeing him when I went back for the EFL Final, he’d mentioned on skype in the run up to that trip that he’d been feeling like shit and had put it down to the Flu.
2 days before I landed he was told he had Liver Cancer and also discovered he had had one minor heart attack and a mild stroke due to the blood clots that creates. He made the point that taking an Aspirin had probably saved his life at the time.
While I was there in Feb, he was waiting on biopsy results to tell his Doctors what type of cancer it was.
Liver Cancer is one of the most aggressive, but there are a number of types and some are treatable. In fact Liver cancer is rarely diagnosed, as it causes blood clots which kill you by a massive stroke or heart attack first and normally is only found at Autopsy.
Back then he had a really positive attitude, he would fight this and he initiated an “End of Life Management Programme”.
A few days after I came home he was told that the cancer had spread and there was now only time, not hope. That EoL programme became his driving force. Obviously he organised stuff like Insurances, Pensions, Mortgages, “gave away” his business so that his employees had a chance to keep their jobs. In fact the ONLY people who were cunts were Halifax Building Society.
He also decided he wanted to go out properly, he’d never been an angel, and so regaled me with tales of the latest Class A drugs that he had been given. All this time he worked to plan his Farewell Party.
For that I travelled back at teh end of April. It was outdoors in a Marquee at the Victoria and Albert in Salisbury, he’d played in bands around the town as a hobby so 3 local bands gave up their time and came and played. His Son who has become an extremely competent Chef (working at Michellin Restaurants in London and more locally) got involved and did a Hog Roast and all the stuff. thise who could baked cakes and the like.
All the time he was helped by the McMillan Trust and their Nurses, and so he set up collections on the day of his party, he set up “stuff” to create ongoing funds and support for them - Apps and the like.
At no time, despite numerous minor heart attacks or strokes did he slow down. That party was wonderful. We ALL approached it with trepidation. “What do you SAY?” yet his attitude made it so simple. We talked shit.
His wife and kids took it hard, when the band played his “Song” (a U2 classic) and he danced in his wheel chair with his latest Grandchild we all choked, and his wife & sons just fell to pieces.
Then at a break between sets, he wheeled himself into the dance floor, picked up the microphone, and spoke for over 5 minutes, thanking everyone, explaining what was happening to him and how he felt and how positive this was. I think it was THE bravest thing I have ever seen.
He took a break mid afternoon, some kind souls had towed a caravan to the Pub Car Park so he could rest and pump meds into himself before we rocked on until it simply got too darned cold for all of us.
We went back the next morning for a wonderful Michellin Starred Breakfast, talked more shit, went on our ways and then finally stayed with him and his wife on our penultimante night in England.
After breakfast of Stilton and Bacon Sarnies, the girls had done the hugging thing and were moving bags to the car, and we just stood in the kitchen. My God I have never known any moment like that. It was Good Bye. We both knew that was it.
And then as he said. Well, thank fuck they found the cancer and stopped me dropping dead.
“At least I have had the time to say goodbye to all my friends. Thanks for coming”
RIP Dave Shearmon, commiserations and condolences to Amanda, what strength you showed these last 3 months
FUCK CANCER
Sounds like a cool guy.
That was a very moving post Phil. We were talking about this a few weeks ago. Some people would be happy to know when their last day was so they could sort out their bucket lists and make the necessary plans for farewells etc. Others, like me, didn’t want to know. As a natural worrier I would spend my final days worrying about my wife and kids, finances etc. Each to his or her own. Fact is, we all have to go sometime so fair play to those who can embrace it.
Roberto De Vincenzo, Argentinian golfer and winner of The Open in 1967 at Hoylake, has died aged 94.
This was the first time I watched it on TV and remember cheering him on as he wasn’t American.
He would also have won the following years Masters, if his playing partner hadn’t marked his card incorrectly, costing him a 2 shot penalty.
The referee from the Hand of God match has also passed on.
I hope, painfully.
