⚰ Death

I was at Morrisons on Monday, for petrol as well. Did not see you. :lou_eyes_to_sky:

But I saw you. I know your secrets.

I thought he died years ago after too many drugs, and was buried in Paris.

very sad to hear of Hans Roslings death today. Always loved his presentations, data and maps. Always had a positive outlook that was infectious. Kind of apt that he’s checked out at time when there’s little to be positive about.

Surprized noone mentioend Joost van der Westhuizen, finally succumbed to MND. Very moving interview with him on BBC site from 2013.

Apollo from the original Battlestar Galactica - Richard Hatch has passed away.

Would probably have gone unnoticed except for the BSG Universe having been so well recreated a few years ago.

He was excellent in both series, and played completely different characters.

Indeed and was nominated for a Golden Globe for the Original Series

Battlestar Galactica revival attempt[edit]

Hatch attempted to revive Battlestar Galactica. In the 1990s, he began writing novels based on the series, and also wrote, co-directed and executive-produced a trailer called The Second Coming in the hopes of enticing Universal Studios (the rights holders for the franchise) into producing a new series that would have been a direct continuation of the original 1978 series (ignoring the events of the failed spin-off Galactica 1980, in which Hatch did not appear). Original actors John Colicos (Baltar), Terry Carter (Col. Tigh) and Jack Stauffer (Bojay) appeared in the trailer with Hatch. Although the trailer won acclaim at science-fiction conventions, Universal was not interested in Hatch’s vision to revive Battlestar Galactica, and instead opted for a remake, rather than the sequel for which Hatch had campaigned. Hatch, who claimed to have remortgaged his house to make the trailer, was bitterly disappointed by this turn of events and was highly critical of the prospective new series on his Web site.[citation needed]

Hatch at Gatecon 2005

In 2004, he stated to Sci-Fi Pulse that he had felt resentment over the failure of his planned Galactica continuation and was left “exhausted and sick … I had, over the past several years, bonded deeply with the original characters and story … writing the novels and the comic books and really campaigning to bring back the show”

Sad news that Professor Hans Rosling has died at the realtively young age of 68. :lou_sad:

He was a brilliant science communicator who did a lot to explain complex issues using statistics. Unfashionable, I know, using evidence to explain correlations and relationships.

Here’s a nice obituary

And here is one of his fantastic videos from his superb website http://www.gapminder.org/. If you’re interested at all in health policy, or the use of statistics more generally, I’d recommend you take a look at this and his TED talks.

Alan Simpson, who along with Ray Galton wrote Steptoe and Son, Hancock’s Half-hour and various other comedies, has died at the age of 87. As a pair they wrote some superb stuff.

Tara Palmer-Tomkinson has stopped living.

Fabulous scrum half in his prime. What a player. It’s a cursed thing, MND, but it looks to me like he appeared positive until the end.

Blimey, only 45! RIP

It took guts and wonderful technique to tackle Jonah Lomu in his prime.

Very sad that these two rugby greats have both died so young.

RIP Joost van der Westhuizen

She certainly packed a lot into her life, a true hedonist. Reportedly at some point she had a 400 quid a day ‘beak’ habit, so our thoughts and commiserations to her dealer at this sad time.

I rather liked the story that was doing the rounds a few years ago, where she allegedly,( as a favour to The Firm), took a seventeen year old Prince William into her boudoir and instructed him in the finer points of “mixed wrestling”, so that he wouldn’t be totally clueless when he got himself a girlfriend. The upper classes leave nothing to chance, and i would imagine she was just the gal for the job!

Al Jarreau has done a runner

Seven-time Grammy Award-winning jazz and pop singer Al Jarreau has died in Los Angeles at the age of 76, his publicist says. The cause of his death was not immediately clear. He was in a hospital being treated for exhaustion.

He has exhausted now.
