I am surprised that Villa Park did not win the Semi final
A mate of mine received complimentary tickets for a panto at the Mayflower twenty odd years ago, starring Lily Savage. He was warned that it would contain some ‘adult content’. He said that was putting it mildly, Lily was hilarious and the double entendre’s were absolute filth. He had them rocking in the aisles.
He always came across as a thoroughly decent human being.

Keith Reid, lyricist with Procol Harum has passed away aged 76, after being treated for cancer. Just a wonderful lyricist, responsible not just for A Whiter Shade Of Pale, which alone grants him legendary status, but also for the rest of Procol’s wonderful songs including, A Salty Dog, Conquistador, Homburg , and my favourite,‘TV Caesar Mighty Mouse’ (tops the pops in every house), from the Grand Hotel album. He has passed away just a year after Gary Brooker. Their live album with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra is worth a listen. Unusually he was a full member of the band but never appeared on stage or in the studio.

He was against us joining the ERM, or trying to join the Eurozone. Major forced that policy through, Lawson was on record as saying that although he thought it could possibly be made to work, he didn’t want us involved at all. The rise in interest rates was down to ERM rules within the mechanism, as long as we stayed in it he had no option.
