⚰ Death

The Sun, I think.

Ah the echo was Eva someone or other…?

It’s so long since I read it. :frowning: I remember the Rameses cartoon strip, and I still miss walking up to Eastons newsies on Saturday evening to wait for the Football Echo to come in.

Yeah, I used to be sent down to the Echo office by the ferry in Hythe early Saturday evening to get the pink sports paper as soon as it came across the water.

Remember as a primary school kid we had a trip to see the Echo offices - near t’’Bargate as I recall.

Yep, corner of Portland Terrace. Near the late, lamented Gilberts book shop.

As a nipper I recall it was all machines, noise, heat & very industrial.

Remember it being magnificent but look at the shite “newspaper “ they peddle today. I’m pretty sure the sad paper version will only last until my parents generation snuff it - they used to buy the early and late editions regularly.

That was the pre-internet way of keeping up…

It was the only way of keeping up locally

When I was a kid and got dragged round town by my mum, I would make a bee line to the Echo Office and look at the photos from the previous home match they would display in the front window.

The paper was also essential for getting the lunchtime cricket scores and report as well as aan update in the stop press in the later edition.

Absolutley fucked itself when it turned into a morning paper.

Especially for births deaths and marriages

That’s what the olds use it for. Mum C_S turned to those pages first of all. Was a hobby.

Doesn’t now, what with being in an olds home and not really with it.

We did the announcement of Dad C_S in the Echo. Seemed the right thing to do. ( the online version was fucked up completely and has to complain - got a half arsed apology and refund)

Got to be honest, I didn’t know she was David Gold’s daughter, and I also hadn’t heard that he died a fortnight ago.

I knew not his name, but I watched him many times. Especially Fringe
RIP only 60

I heard that on the news last night, thought he was much older TBF.
