⚰ Death

Anyone?

Why is everyone asking us to rip dead people? I know you can’t libel them but even so, they shouldn’t be spoken ill of either.

Scotland and Rangers goalkeeper Andy Goram has passed aged 58, no age at all. He was recently diagnosed with oesophageal cancer and declined chemotherapy which would have given him another six months. I can’t say I blame him. RIP.

I read today that Andy Goram was diagnosed with mild schizophrenia, which he went public about, which was quite brave really. After this was reported in the press it led to what were described as “vicious and cruel taunts” directed towards him by Kilmarnock supporters when they chanted,“Two Andy Gorams, there’s only two Andy Gorams”. Some might feel it could be described as in poor taste, but come on, these are football crowds. Vicious and cruel taunts? Surely not, I must confess that my first reaction to the chant is that it’s very funny, quite witty and it made me laugh. Funny is funny.

Surely

‘They got Sonny’

would have been enough?

He’s got to have one of the best deaths in cinema.

I refer of course, to the toll booth ambush in The Godfather.

The studio wanted him to play Michael Corleone. Coppola had to really fight for Pacino to play Michael, as mental as that seems now.

It was this scene that convinced them to let him keep the role.

Monty Norman, aged 94.

Composer of possibly the most iconic film theme ever written.
