⚰ Death

We have a lot of white South Afticans on board the vessel the Boers hated him and the English SA liked him. Make of that what you will.

You mean the ones who emigrated to SA because England wasn’t racist enough for them?

David Lacey, former Grauniad chief football writer and general sports correspondent, has died at the age of 83. He was a superb football writer; in fact, I’d struggle to think of a better one.

One obviously hasn’t met the diaspora of South Africans in the UK.

My Lethal Weapon 2 impressions get almost a monthly run-out.

I’ve one in my team. Afrikaans. Totally decent bloke. Him and family :man_shrugging:t3:

Mileage varies.

A few on here have met the opposite. She had a “garden boy” back in SA.

I guess you can only make personal opinions by experience, good and/or bad. Mind you there’s very good and very bad in every nation. Take the UK for instance.

By today’s standards, some of the things that the UK has done in the past have been barbaric.

But we weren’t doing apartheid as official government policy into the 1990s.

I take everyone on their merits, so there’s no danger of me generalising. But Spitting Image did do a song about this subject in the 1980s which was much more generalising.

Indeed.

I hadn’t realised John Lloyd co-wrote it.

He’s finished his last race.
