⚰ Death

Fairenough… my view is simply its a personal thing for the family and friends. Everything else is some weird thing I really dont get…

It’s bloody Diana all over again…

Seriously though, I genuinely don’t get it. It’s as if it’s a contest to show how sad and upset a person or media outlet is…In other news “an old man, in Ill health died today. The family are naturally upset, so please respect their wishes for privacy”

I’m pretty sure Phil (not ours) would get off on the collective “grief”.

Are people genuinely really upset? I was when my Dad died last year, but I’m sure as hell not upset about the death of someone I never knew, or was unlikely ever to know just because the media or people on Facebook are telling me to be.

Is it wrong to think this. Am genuinely interested to hear from people who are upset by it - and those who are not…

I suspect that you won’t find many on here, if any, who are upset by the death of Phil the Greek. Equally, I’m sure there will be many people who hold the royal family in high regard who’ll be genuinely upset.

I’ve felt far more saddened by the recent deaths of U-Roy and Bunny Wailer (as examples), as they both brought great joy into my life. Prince Philip brought me no joy (or anything else for that matter), so I feel no emotion on his passing.

But I can only agree with your first couple of paragraphs.

A good time to bury bad news. I do hope there are a few proper journalists out there who will be keeping their eyes open during the next couple of weeks. This is a perfect distraction for the unscrupulous buggers masquerading as a government to slip all sorts through, under the cover of “national mourning”. They will have a free run, because this will be wall to wall in the media every day, the only news in town. Bread and circuses for the masses.

That’s in very poor taste, referring to him as “bad news”. A little respect, please. :rage::rage::rage:

Interesting that Phil has already dropped off the top of the most read stories to number 3. Number 1 is:

Thought he’d be No.1 for days

It does not upset me one iota, I couldnt care less that he has gone. I never knew the man. But I will be staying off the facebook page until after they have planted him or I will be requiring a bucket per scroll.

FFS! I just switched over to BBC 4 to watch The Old Grey Whistle Test to be met with a blank screen and a message, ‘Programme’s on BBC 4 have been suspended. Please switch to BBC1 for a major news report’. Same for BBC 2, scratched the schedules for wall to wall hagiography of The late Duke, on 1 & 2. Fucking ridiculous, wouldn’t be out of place in North Korea.

Oh, and surprise, surprise he’s back at the top again. Well done BBC, it’s like Lazarus rising from the dead…Errrm, probably not the best metaphor :joy:

Couldn’t agree more. I was looking forward to watching the Masterchef final on BBC1 this evening, but quickly saw that the BBC was steering clear of any such frivolities.

I get that many people see this as something of massive importance, but surely this level of coverage is way over the top. Both main BBC channels with nothing but this, their main digital channel suspended for the evening - that’s just fucking pathetic.

Netflix / Prime are ok.

Am sure they’re frantically rewriting the next series of The Crown though

Actually, you can still watch whatever you want on iPlayer as far as I know - that’s the difference between streaming and live services.
