⚰ Death

…a comeback tour? This should draw bumper audiences. :lou_surprised:

His latest death is just gathering some Social Media momentum - if it continues he can tour with Tony Hart and Leslie Nielsen when they next go.

RIP Laughing Leonard Cohen.

Blimey, the Reaper reaps again! I have just lost my aunt/godmother too but at the ripe old age of 96 so she had a very good innings. Not a great year for those in the music biz or those with an interest in politics. Roll on 2017!

The first album I bought of Cohen’s was this one, with the most bizarre cover you could imagine - him munching a banana…

Anyway, imagine my surprise to find the song First We Take Manhatten on there.

Personally I think Len deserves a thread to himsellf, but I’ll go with the flow here. A magnificent artist, thought to be miserable and gloomy by many, but mostly only those who’d never actually listened to his music. As far as I’m concerned this puts the cap perfectly on what’s been an epically shitty week. Here’s one of my fave Cohen songs, from the LP checked by Bathsaint above:

Can’t we just rewind this fucking year and start it again?

Oops, meant to vote that up and clicked on the downvote by mistake. There doesn’t seem to be any way of changing your vote, which is a shame, because that is also a great song by the man.

Saw Laughing Len at the BIC a few years back.

He was in his 70s and it was still an absolutely stunning gig. Energy, humour and charisma by the bucketload.

A really profound lyricist has left us with a significantly reduced lyrical gene pool.

Edited for you. Such a shit shit shit year for losing icons… add that to the political shittiness and we’re left with a massive hunk of stinking, steaming shit of a year.

You’re quite right, of course. I had only this week in my mind, but you’ve taken the longer view. A massive hunk of stinking, steaming shit of a yeat this most certainly is.

The Man From U.N.C.L.E has gone to H.E.A.V.E.N

Robert Vaughn has died.

Sad news again. They’re dropping like flies.

Fuck. Lked him

Just when you think you’ve heard just about every take on Hallelujah, Jacob Collier comes up with this stunningly tasteful tribute…

That’s really something. And, as a coda on Laughing Len (though to be honest I could read tributes to him for a long while yet), here’s an excellent piece from the Guardian by Dorian Lynskey.

Not for me, 'slowlane.

Too interfered with.

That said I’m a Buckley man and The Flyd Owl will be along soon to tell us the John Cale got it right.

Also seems that Len felt that it was OK to have many different interpretations on the song.

Well I’m a Buckley man through and through…had Grace the first day it was released and count his gig at the Wedgewood Rooms as one of the best I’ve ever seen…but there’s still room for a tasteful re-invention. :lou_wink_2:
