Games like that are always difficult to properly assess.
We scored an early goal against a team shot of all confidence and without a single goal all season. As a consequence it was probably too convenient for us to just dominate possession and not truly look at cracking on and creating more clear chances.
If we hadnāt scored so early on then I do wonder if weād have been a bit more expansive.
Once again though I donāt recall us having another real shot on target. A couple of blocked efforts but the keeper wasnāt tested.
I donāt want to single players out but I have to say Redmond infuriates the shit out of me. For someone so quick, his preference is always to bring the ball back and square a defender up. Even when he is already beyond them. I just donāt understand it. Allowing a defender to get back goal side and then play it square. I donāt think Iām being hyper critical here because a Middlesbrough fan mate of mine just text me and said essentially the same thing. He needs to be more direct.
Iāve also been critical of Tadic but at least he stuck to his job, hugged the right touch line which allowed Hoedt to switch the play and he took on his man to get the cross in for the goal.
An important win but still a lot of work needed going forwards. More performances like that from Lemina will help provide a platform to work from.
I did like and appreciate the tactics deployed on Benteke, with Romeu sitting in front of him to mop up the second balls. That largely nullified their attack. Fair play to the manager for that one.
