Dr. John spitting feathers at the WHO response to the new variant…

Stable doors and bolting horses spring to mind

Saw a vicious tweet earlier.
SA scientists created the test and found the Omicron variant.
Huge difference from it being the SA variant
As in it could be everywhere already

Fancy that - SA are getting a dose of what we went through with the Kent variant

Bit of an unnecessary scare today - Mrs TB went for her booster today.
When they had sight of her allergies and history of anaphylactic problems, they had to get special clearance to giver her the Pfizer; the option was there, and was discussed, of her coming back on Wednesday for Astra Zeneca.
Went ahead with Pfizer, and there was a reaction!!!
All settled after about 10 minutes, but all potential problems could have been avoided by just giving her the AZ next Wednesday.

Phew

Masks on in shop and public transport

PCR for all arrivals into UK

10 day mandatory quarantine if you come into contact with a Omicrom case - irrespective of how vaccinated you are

But not in entertainment venues - so masks will be a complete waste of time

or Football stadia…looks like I will be the only mask wearer at St Marys on Wednesday, yet again. :lou_eyes_to_sky:

There’s a bit of regional variation going on here. We were in Stoke for the last few days, most shoppers were wearing masks.

Well, truth is, would you want to be seen shopping in Stoke?

Anyone who saw me would have to have been shopping in Stoke too.

Your move. :sunglasses::smile:

This looks like something promising. A new treatment regime for Coronavirus patients co-dosing another off patent drug with dexamethasone.
“To test this hypothesis this paper reports proof of concept studies in which MR blockade using spironolactone and low dose dexamethasone (SpiDex) was given to PCRconfirmed COVID-19 patients. In 80 patients with moderate to severe respiratory failure 40 were given SpiDex and 40 conventional treatment with high dose dexamethasone (HiDex). There was 1 death in the HiDex group and none in the SpiDex. As judged by clinical, biochemical and radiological parameters there were clear statistically significant benefits of SpiDex in comparison to HiDex. A further 20 outpatients with COVID-19 were given SpiDex. There was no control group and the aim was to demonstrate safety. No adverse effects were noted and no patient became hyperkalaemic. 90% were asymptomatic at 10 days. The very positive results suggest that blockade of the MR can produce major benefit in COVID19 patients.”
