Just heard about the under 23 team result and relegation. I was hoping Jaidi would develop as a top manager. It looks like we need to really draw a line under the season and find a new strategy for the next. New owner, new manager, new CEO, new tactics
it doesn’t matter what the topic is, you seem to learn one stock response or phrase and just repeat it endlessly. That’s not a discussion, it’s just saying the same thing over and over again.
…think it’s time for your medication NYS … .maybe double up !?
Charlie Nicholas just said his irritation with Puel was making like for like changes and being too rigid.
I reckon he’s been reading my whining on here.
It doesn’t make it wrong or invalid though.
True, but it is boring, turns people off and stifles debate.
So we all can agree he has underperformed, the team has also so therefore his position should quite rightly be under review?
From this we can move on and discuss the merits of him staying and going?
Yes.
My review we have had a fair season, but under performed and are playing dull football.
Equally Redmond has gone from being a waste of space to England International as has JWP. Boufal shows signs and Gabbi could be a treasure.
Stephens is now a capable back up CB McQueen & Targett look good and Sims & Hesketh show great potential for midgets
So on review he has NOT done enough to be sacked Bazza.
Sorry but I respect your right to an opinion
This is my main complaint. We haven’t used our season of mid-table safety to experiment or develop tactically. We haven’t come up with a ‘Plan B’ or become more flexible in our attacking play with the players that we do have at our disposal. We just line up with our usual 4-3-3, usually with the same lineup of players, and its been OK enough to muddle along in mid-table without much fear of relegation, but I don’t really see us making much progress.
JESUS! That is much to positive for this discussion Phil. Get a grip.
Relegated Sunderland, with nothing to play for, have just beaten Hull…
Just saying.
Hull will deserve it for coming to our place with zero ambition to attack and killing the game (and the sport).
Yay, let’s get Marco Silva in as manager now…
Christ, at the beginning of the season he was lampooned for rigidly sticking to a diamond formation
Is that the master tactician, multiple trophy-winning manager and experienced coach Charlie Nicholas?
Or a bloke who has never managed in his life?
Regardless, both he and I surely have a point.
I’d be delighted to hear what the tactics were behind subbing Gabbiadini for Long with 30 minutes to play.
As you’ve said above, Hull came to us with little ambition to attack. Therefore why couldn’t we have ADDED another striker to our side rather than bringing one off for another? Especially considering that the player introduced has not been in any sort of form, with only 5 goals in 42 appearances. Fewer than the man he replaced who had only played a fraction of those games. Also, Long’s game benefits from opposition holding a high defensive line allowing him space in behind. Playing him against a side sitting deep… what was the point?
Regarding the subbing of Gabbi for Long, I have no idea why he did it but my first thought was that maybe Gabbi isnt 100% fit yet and he is bringing him back slowly. Could be total bollocks of course.
But Gabbiadini played 86 minutes against Chelsea. He was removed after an hour against City before that. I cannot see how it was fitness based.
… 3rd game in a week for someone coming back from injury ?!
Those games occurred over two weeks mate. City was 15th April. Ten days later Chelsea on 25th.
The rigidity point has been formed over the course of the season, not just the last few games. I cannot recall many (if any) instances where he’s thrown caution to the wind to win a game and thrown two strikers on or changed formation DURING a game. I’m not talking about a token 5 minute run out for Jay at the end of a game. I’m talking about meaningful minutes.
