:pl: :chelseafc: Chelsea v Saints :saints:

Fuckity fuck fuck.

I think any player would have attempted that tackle in that situation. It was a genuine attempt to win the ball in a very promising position.

Welcome to football with VAR.

Thanks to a biblical rainstorm I lost power for pretty much the whole afternoon. Doesn’t seem like I missed much. Need to get some more points on the board from the next few games or will be getting squeaky bum time by christmas.

Well I was expecting us to lose, but the manner of losing was very disappointing, and it’s sad to see us down amongst the dead men at the foot of the PL; here’s hoping we can come back soon and win a few games.
Is there any chance of an appeal against the red card? If not, we’ll see how we manage without JWP for a bit.

It’s another example of just showing the ref ultra slow motion and a still frame. In real time you can see it was a one-footed tackle with his boot on the ground following through onto the ankle. No malicious intent. Not out of control. I had the advantage of watching it on live TV where they showed dozens of replays from different angles. The one Dean showed was the one that made it look bad. It was a clear yellow, as Atkinson gave, and 99% of VAR refs wouldn’t have intervened as there was nothing clear and obvious if you need to search for an angle.

What you missed was actually one of better performances this season. The change to bring Diallo on at HT made a big difference. The 1-1 was deserved and from there we were putting a huge effort in and the game was in the balance. The Red changed everything, obviously.

Well that’s promising, hopefully it will bode well for the next 3 games against teams around us.

But for the red I think we’d have had a good chance of hanging on or even pinching a win.

Now, with JWP presumably out, we need to play Romeu as a deeper DM with Diallo and SA just in front.

Dean must be the leading VAR exponent of getting yellows changed to red.

Just been watching the highlights, and it seemed when the ref was shown JWP’s tackle it was the view that showed it in the worst possible light, when the ref was looking at Kyle Walker’s tackle on Armstrong it seemed to show the angle that would most exonerate him, are they only shown one view on the screen or is it just that I’m watching highlights and don’t see the whole process?

The VAR ref chooses the view, which is totally wrong. We need to change things radically do that the norm is VAR only comes into play if the ref requests that an incident be reviewed or VAR can demonstrate that the ref has actually missed something, rather than VAR intervening to express an alternative view on a event the ref has seen and ruled on.

Whenever VAR is invoked, the on-field ref should be able to have any replay, from any available angle, at any speed HE requests.

The current system is still broken and at the mercy of attention-seeking VAR refs wanting to prove they’re better than the ref.

Well done @PhilippineSaint, @Rugbysaint, @scotty and @OzSaintDave

Too many people to mention took the obvious option

“[On] the red card from VAR Mike Dean, it is the third time he gave us a red card while I am here, but OK.”

It was a red card
JWPs foot bounced

Shouldn’t have been called out to change the refs opinion for an incident that happened at speed only to be reviewed at slow motion. The ref saw the incident, gave the foul and a yellow card…the VAR ref called the tune not at normal speed but frame by frame. If the ref had missed the tackle, fair enough but VAR was another opinion out of context.

This is absolutely the issue. Dean consistently looks to ref the game himself on VAR. Does he think it clever to see things he thinks the on-field ref has, in his opinion, got wrong? He’s reviewing decisions rather than correcting obvious errors.

A bigger question is why other refs feel obliged to be pressured into changing their decisions? Is Dean at the top of the pecking order?
