What really boils my piss is the ā€˜not much in it’ line.

What game was he watching?

Ipswich could have been 3 up in the first half.

Playing players out of position.

Not playing certain players from the start.

I’m not a massive fan of Bednarek but to play Charles at the back when he’s been our better holding midfield player was a huge error by RM.

Aribo looked lost. Smallbone was outnumbered.

As @Waylander said Ipswich didn’t do much but we kept surrendering possession.

There’s no plan/style/identity. Especially when playing out from the back. Charles made an error but Ipswich forced that by their closing down. Smallbone didn’t help Charles, Aribo the same.

I can’t be fucking arsed to continue this rant.

Yep, the truth is we were comfortably beaten and the scoreline flattered us. The plan is clearly to drill the team into playing out from the back and keeping very high possession rates, but the truth is that our present crop of players simply don’t have the technical skills to maintain that. Sunderland, Leicester and now Ipswich pressed us hard in possession at the back knowing this, with predictable results. Every soft goal we ship this way will strip our defence of confidence and pile extra pressure on our largely ineffectual front line to produce the goals. It’s all well and good RM constantly going on about bravery and courage when the mess we’re always putting ourselves in is tailor made to ruin those traits.

And just in case you needed support of this argument…

Instead, Burns felt that Southampton’s gameplan was too predictable which made it easier for his side to prevent them from creating chances to equalise.

ā€œThere’s a misconception where, when a team has a lot of possession, it feels like we’re under the cosh," the winger noted when speaking to the Echo’s sister publication, the East Anglian Daily Times.

"It’s very different when you’re out there. We have such a strong, disciplined shape, so we knew exactly what they were going to do before they were doing it.

ā€œIt was easy to read where their passes were going, and you saw a lot of the time that they were kicking balls away, off the field or straight to us, because we’re shutting angles that we know they want to play.ā€

Cocktails are ridiculously cheap. I suggest you drink as many as possible.
