:efl: Championship :middlesbroughfc: Middlesbrough v Saints :saints:

Ashamed to admit it, but I have decided to give football a miss for about 3-6 months. I felt very optimistic after 3 or 4 games, but if I feel anything now it’s just anger
I saw the result today, and felt nothing. No surprise or disappointment, just wtf we’ve lost again, this time to the team bottom of the league.
Looks like we will continue losing for some time, at least until we have tried every member of the squad in every position, and have possibly given a few youngsters a run out.
I can see some more experienced players wanting away in January. The whole thing looks like another bloody fuck up.
Blaming the last two years, and arguing that the new manager needs time cuts no ce with me - all excuses are bollocks imo.

What the fuck is wrong with this football club?

Or, an easier question, what is right with this football club?

With The Skates currently top of Division1 and Saints in freefall in the Championship the ultimate nightmare scenario is a distinct possibility.

So Martin is once again talking about ‘scar tissue’ playing a part despite 50% of the team being new players of impeccable character (according to Martin when signing them).

Claimed that the midfield 3 today is the best of the 8 variations tried to date! Jo Tessem pointing out though that none of them can pass forward or between the lines.

The excuses keep coming and Martin is lashing out now. He’s going down swinging. Shame the players aren’t. Another couple of defeats and post match tosh and he’ll be as popular as Jones.

Corrected for you

I’ve just listened to RM’s post match interview on Radio Solent.

He’s deluded.

Can we start singing “…Pompey, here we come…” again yet?

This is what Our manager had to say after the game:

'He said: "I thought we were actually better than we have been. We started the game well. We stole the ball really well and Che (Adams) should have scored. Our goal was really good.

“That reaction to going ahead was passive. When we go 1-0 ahead, the mentality of the entire team totally changes.

"We didn’t keep hold of the ball. If you’re not going to press you need to look after the ball. We didn’t do any of that. That’s ultimately what hurt us.

“Up until the last 15 minutes, when it became a bit helter-skelter because we were chasing the game, I thought we had loads of control in the second half.

“We looked really creative in the middle of the pitch and then they won a penalty six or seven seconds later. Both of them were pulling each other.

He continued: “I’ve only seen it once, but Taylor (Harwood-Bellis) said he was pulling his shirt as well. I think the referee has guessed. It could have gone either way.”

Well I sure am glad I visited this thread

What game was RM watching in the second half? He’s utterly deluded.

We are fucked!

The problem is he equates doing better to complying better with his dictated tactics, rather than being creative, defending strongly, showing pace and flair and actually winning games.

He seems to be saying we need to stop making mistakes. Agreed, but when players are forced to play to his rigid tactics rather than doing what they normally do, hesitancy and uncertainty causes mistakes.

And it’s clear several players are already sensing this is wrong but it’s also clear Martin doesn’t do discussion: these players are dropped and we play with an inferior team of yes-men trying but failing match after match to implement a flawed system.

It happened with Jones and it’s happening again.

Have you noticed how often he talks about players he can trust? That means trust to comply exactly with his tactics.

Thank you @Shroppie.

That’s a perfect description of how I see what’s happening at Saints.

Football is a simple game. RM is a slave to overcomplicating it.

I had written another slightly unhinged Sunday morning post RM interview rant but decided to delete that and replace it with a recording of me doing an armpit fart.

Another recurring theme is “bravery” and “courage”.

Which I assume means being brave enough to take four straight absolute hammerings and still come out next game trying to play the same way.

Apparently, we’re bottom of the entire EFL for goals conceded per game.

But it’s all about the players lacking courage if we concede first, or killer instinct if we score first. Nothing to do with the system, oh no.

Edit, the guy added later that if he included the PL as well, we’d still only be above Burnley. :joy::joy:
