Career advice

Love busting lefties on your hypocrisy.

Gimme a common-or-garden Tory ‘I’m-alright-Jack’ transparent-in-his-own-self-interest arsehole over a smug ‘be-happy-with-what-you’ve-got’ liberal any day of the fucking week.

Well between 2012 and Feb 2014 I literally just worked part time in a call-centre.

I was this guy: http://www.thedailymash.co.uk/news/society/man-has-no-career-aspirations-20150710100038

But yeah, you may have a point. If you joined the workforce in Feb '14 and you could argue we’d both more-or-less have most stuff in common.

HR Manager. It’s in Jean Court (I think it’s called). She bought it with her bloke (same age, Surveyor) for £312k 3 years ago. Selling for £425k.

I owned a flat at 25, in Weybridge. It’s doable, trust me.

She’s the one interviewing you next week :lou_wink_2:

Anyway, night all. Gotta get my sleep as tomorrow I will be making the most of my English/European Politics BA(Hons) and painting some fucker’s lounge for him.

Is this your personal definition of generation? It seems to be the only answer you have given.

Do it.

Please.

Do it.

Please let me bear witness to a forum full of lefties telling me the global financial crisis doesn’t matter and didn’t affect the youth.

What’s your excuse for the last 6 years then?

Excuse? I graduated in 2012, dicked around for a bit, began making my career as a journalist and got sick of it. Now I’m moving into something different. Innit.

I’m wondering why it’s that much harder to get a job 7 years after the global financial crisis finished?

By the way, my sisters 2 years older than you, got an equally as waste of time degree as you have (psychology), and she’s got her flat up for sale in Tooting right now.

I assume that’s not the same generation though…

Sorry, your sister, at the age of 28, owns her own flat?

Tell me more?

How much does it cost and what does she do for a living?

So she’s been working in HR for how long? You said she did a degree in psychology and was 28. That’s 7 years tops she’s been in the workforce. You’re saying that her and her fella bought the property outright for £312k with your sister having been in the workforce for 4 years?

That’s not a generation then. That’s just life circumstances.

Correct.

Oh for heaven’s sake. How do you not get this?

Ok. Let’s change tack.

I, MrTrampoline, hereby consider a generation to be precisely equal to five calendar years in time.

Prove me wrong sir!

Correct.

So your sister (assuming she paid half for the flat), was able to *save* an average of £39k per year in her first four years since graduating in addition to earning enough to pay rent, bills and living expenses.

Night :lou_wink_2::

Where in fucks name did you get those figures from?

She lived at home and worked in Winchester earning £16k per year the first two years, and then moved to London in a flatshare in Putney (think she was earning circa £25k). She saved about £20k, as did her other half, and then bought their place.

Don’t know where you get these figures from, unless you don’t know how you buy a house…?

I think he’s suggesting that your sister and partner saved £39k a year and then bought the house outright - no mortgage.

Do you think he’s for real, or on a windup? In his eyes, ‘owning’ a flat is buying it outright?

Jesus.

Right. I’ve checked apparently the commute from Tooting to St Albans is pretty direct and is 1h20mins. I have been told this is pretty normal for a commute in London. I’ve been lucky here and mainly had a 35-45 min commute but now have a 25 min walk.

A bit of googling shows you can get a shared room in St Albans for something between £550-700 a month.

Work out which is cheaper. I moved to Newcastle to have a change. Meett new people, live independentlyetc. I’ve lived in a few shared houses throughout my 20s. it’s what you do and surely a bit of a right of passage. How not to kill your housemates when they don’t do the washing up etc.

2 jobs ago I got reorganised and ended up in an office adding 20 mins to my already long journey. I was very pissed off but got on with it whilst making plans to find something different. it’s what you do.

Anyway good luck with the next part.

My commute is 90 minutes each way, so that’s definitely doable for him.

Could rent in Luton for a lot less and get a short commute. Or others areas if you really look.

Er, yeah.

You don’t ‘own’ a flat if you have a mortgage. You’re in the process of buying it.

There’s no debate on this one. That’s literally what is taking place whilst you’re paying a mortgage.
