Can I just point (again) out that we might all be sprechen ze Germans if not for Soviet “aggression”?
Can I also point out that it is probably a good thing that we’ve got countries that are attempting to regain or attain super-power status?
Can you imagine, such as all of Bush’s mates did, that America was the sole and unquestioned super-power on Earth, free to export its (ahem) “powers of freedom” anywhere with no worry about repercussions?
The USA already has form for depleted uranium, white phosphorous, and let’s not forget, its the only country to have ever dropped nukes on civilian targets.
Think big picture Bazza, not the little images you see on TV.
That’s good and means you agree with the Russian people.
Tell us all Putin’s approval rating and then we can compare with leaders in the free(sic) west.
Who’s happier with their leader, here or Russia?
Oh for someone in the west who acts in the best interests of the bulk of the population.
I’m not sure popularity is any yardstick in that part of the world. Loads of people there still love Stalin, and most sensible Soviets did publicly back in his day, on pain of death actually.
Putins rating is the lowest its been and this is from a nation that isn’t free and doesn’t allow opposition, he detests the citizens of his nation, he loves the nation and its institutions as he has used them to attain huge wealth via nefarious means.
Even more so, unless you know something that we don’t about Iran’s previously undiscovered 100% first strike nuclear program. Logically, that would prevent MAD. Are they that far along?
Or is it simply that you haven’t thought it through?
Or perhaps more worryingly, you have thought it through and it makes perfect sense.
Your worries about Iran and all those other countries is basically predicated on the idea that the first thing those countries do when they get the bomb is launch the bomb, that they’re suicidal maniacs that’ll happily launch an attack with auto-genocidal consequences.
We know that’s not true. NK got the bomb. They disprove your theory immediately. What they did were a couple of nuke-free test launches that had the orange one shimmying into the Korean DMZ.
That part of the world? Do explain.
Then you compare now to Stalin’s time. Things have changed a lot. It’d be like comparing racist exceptionalist Churchill led Britain with today’s Britain.
Yeah, thinking about it, you may have a point
But you still refuse to say what it is. Why so scared to say it?
Is it 99.5% down from 100%, or as low as any leader in in the fukus group of murderers, or maybe down a bit but still unheard of for any of the above mentioned?
Does MAD still apply?
We know Russia can deploy missiles that we can do nothing about. They also have the best by a country mile anti missile systems, but the one people need to take far more notice of is their electronic warfare tech.
They always knew they couldn’t compete in numbers so looked at other ways and if only 10% of what is claimed is true, they can protect themselves very well(although large as it is, they’d probably be fucked if the rest of the planet was glowing). Before you dismiss this, remember all the belly laughs when they said they had all these amazing hypersonic weapons. The west didn’t laugh for very long(and there’s no way they’ve revealed everything).
Apart from that agree completely. Fear of one’s own demise really does make the bully think twice.
MAD always applies unless you can categorically knock every boomer submarine out of the sea. Any country with a developed nuclear arsenal can be knocked out on a first strike.
MAD has always been about not knowing, for sure, that retaliation won’t happen.
I honestly don’t know what would happen in that hypothetical situation where a country was taken out yet its mobile nuclear attack facility remained, but I can’t imagine the inhabitants of those subs being too happy.
None of this is true anymore.
On a budget slightly bigger than Britain’s they’ve completely rewritten all the rules(yes they redefined weaponry with the same amount we spent on two massive coffins and a couple of dozen aircraft that don’t fly for longer than Fucking 35 minutes (wonder where they got the name ))
How about a missile, launched from anywhere, can hit anywhere, that can come from any direction and will hit you at 26,000 mph(we have nothing that can do even a third of that, but in less than a decade, the us believe if they spend another couple of trillion, they could get to 10,000mph, maybe)
That’s impressive, but their defences are far superior to their attack. They’ve revealed less of this, but the Pentagon’s own official papers reveal that 10% i mentioned and it’s scary for any nation that’s whole defensive capabilities depend on GPS(or the other military version i can’t remember the name of(pissed and happy to be so. You’ll need to look it up if you don’t know. Sorry)).
I think they call it checkmate and all whilst reducing the military budget by 3%(how fucking embarrassing is that to the exceptionalists🙄).
Not sure your last point really understands what i’m saying is feasible for them. They might block everything, whilst wiping out all the opposition. But the rest will destroy each other, so condemning them to radioactive everything. That would prove the true MADness of the western powers(and admittedly an end goal for some(evangelicals)).
Whatever his flaws, Putin has turned that country around after the very deliberately planned raping that we bestowed on them in the 90s and the western rapists hate him for it. I’d give my right arm for someone that could do it here. Imagine things like higher national pride(without exceptionalism), a rising living standard, rising age, less inequality and still teaching things like logic and critical thinking to school children. Yes producing people that can question and reason. That’s rather lacking in Western “democracies”(by design), which leads to the question why?
You haven’t seen the weaponry, nor has it been proved, if I were you son I’d looked to the east and the prodding of the Chinese and the people starting to influence on the border areas.
This is the now.
The Chinese and Russians as friendly as they may seem due to the dollar and trade wars will be at each others throat if the US throws any one of them a bone.
