:brexit: Brexit - The Ramifications

It would be nice to believe that people thoughtfully weigh up facts and evidence on both sides of an argument before arriving at sound, logical and rational decisions. Imo, though, this rarely happens; instead, people process information through a filter of biases and prejudices acquired through a life-time of personal experiences. Information is manipulated, corrupted or completely discarded to suit. I don’t believe intelligent people are immune to this; and they are certainly more adept at rationalising, to themselves and to others, the reasons they have arrived at decisions for seemingly irrational reasons.

I agree, Fats, there should not have been a referendum on such a complex issue.

Pap - you are clutching at straws dude. I get the impression you are suffering an inner turmoil. In an ideal world - as you would have it, the only issue with respect to the EU that anyone was concerned about was the principle of democracy - the lack of it as you see it within the Commission… You voted for Brexit on this principle and you are comfortable with that, Had this been the only issue you could now bask in the glory of a righteous victory.

… however, I think you know that for a significant number of people voting, they were basing their decisions on what they were told by cunts. Both of the xenophobic type and the devious liers (Gove and his 350mil bus) -I think it is pretty much accepted that there were enough taken in by this shit to have made a difference in the vote - so you can understand why a) Remains are pretty fucking angry with the cunts who spread those lies and xenophobia - more so than the people taken in by it who lets say maybe are not the brightest… and maybe more controvercially b) pretty angry with the smart people who voted Brexit based on personnally held beliefs and principles despite the knowledge that it would cause this unknown turmoil, and provide some sort of validation to the xemnophobes.

Is it fair that you are not left without criticism because of your democratic right? No its not, but life is not fucking fair and ALL those who voted Brexit are repsonible for whatever mess now happens… whether economic, social, xenophobic - because they are ALL related to the vote. The smart people maybe carry more responibilty because they knew what was bullshi, lies and what would happen with respect to the increase in xenophobic behaviour?

As many have mentioned, the complexities of EU membership are NOT just single issue, yet we were expected to make a single decision, which means we should have taken ALL impications of our decisons in to account when making it. I suspect you know this and that some of the implications make you feel very uncomfortable - which is understandable - you seem a decent guy… but it maybe explains some of your more desperate statements of defence…

Pap is his usual “I’m rght and everyone else is wrong” mantra. We’ve seen it played on so many times before such as “crisis actors”.

Sure sign of a closed mind when somebody cannot accept that they are wrong no matter what.

Come on pap you are now simply kicking over the traces. I haven’t seen you deny the lies but you are denying the possible/probable effects. You can’t have both ways.

If I can’t have it both ways, then neither can the Remain side.

What do you think had more impact on floating voters?

A big red bus with an easily dismissable claim, fronted by a known charlatan with no chance of implementing policy?

The actual chancellor announcing that there would be huge tax hikes on the eve of the referendum.

I had to sit and suffer these fuckin lies being trotted out on social media on a daily basis by friends and family for a couple of months before the vote.

Leave voters have had to put up with rubbish before and after. I’ve seen a few people get frustrated on Facebook and throw a few expletives at Remain voters, but in general, I’ve seen nothing like the disrespect aimed at Remainers that is being doled out at Leavers.

We’ve been told that Boris Johnson or Michael Gove would be defining a post-Brexit settlement, yet they’re unlikely to be in the picture. Gove knifed Boris, and the Conservative Party are none too happy with him. His bid is dead; he won’t get the votes. We’re in uncharted territory at the moment. Article 50 not yet invoked, Tory leadership far from settled, same can be said for Labour.

It’s clear from the ensuing events that the government had no plan for Brexit. They simply didn’t believe it was going to happen, which is why we’ve had this long-grass action from Cameron which suspends the matter until October.

Just single line Trumpisms like “Take Control” and a picture of Boris…countless pictures of the fucking red bus…pictures of lines of Syrian Refugees…pictures of war graves with “Did they Die in Vain”. All trotted out to a retinue of other back-slappers who were also going to “Take Control”

When I finally decided to put more meat on the bones and supply links to independant websites like “Full Facts.org” not a single comment or “like” …they had all the “proof” they needed. They had gorged on the feast of one line rhetoric and had no stomach for a cold desert of FACTS.

Don’t tell us it had little or no effect on the result.

I’m fine with the idea of the NHS bus having an effect, but that doesn’t mean I’m prepared to accept what’s being implied by the Remain call for a re-run. “Only your side was stupid enough to get duped”. It goes both ways.

Just as an illustration of how people take what’s written on the Internet as gospel.

This was posted by one of my “Out” voting friends. For about a week before the vote all she would write on my FB page was “OUT OUT OUT”…not one for in depth discussions.

The picture and text explains it all very clearly…it has more that 700 shares…it doesn’t take “the brain of Britain” to see the text to the picture is bollocks yet she was indignantly calling for the “offender” to be locked away for a very long time.

…a quick Google search for the image with throw up the real story.

Haven’t seen that before but from my travels know it is likely Ecuador or Peru. A picture tells a thousand words (although apparent this may not be the original saying either). All interpreted differently.

I personally haven’t seen any aggressive remainers to leavers. Though I am sure it is happening. But that’s because the remainers are angry. We may just let some of our frustration and anger out. Just let us have it (unless it gets physical, libelous et) . Without having to dissect it it all.

We are unhappy. Maybe grieving in a way and have to go through a few stages of the process before we can get on with things. It’s still early. Just let us be. If it was the other way around it may have been the same too. I’d have let them process the outcome and let them get on with it.

That’s my only response and I don’t want to get into any back and forth either. At some point we need to step back and accept the differences between people. We won’t aleays agree. But maybe keep our battles for something more important.

You’re right Niki…Ecuador…the people in the picture are local villagers who found the carcass of a young Condor that had been shot…but of course trial by FB has put a completely different story on the picture.

It shows some people will accept what is written on The Internet in face of contrary evidence. The person in question has to be corrected regularly.

And this is continuing evidence of your lack of ability to debate. Plenty of points above, guv. What’s your response? A cross forum button push :lou_sunglasses:

Blimey, Flahute. Has it really come to that?

Stick to fawning tweets to Tom Watson. (See, I can play cross media too!)

If I saw a bird that big I would shit myself and kill it as well. It’s more like a dragon than a bird. Fair play to Mexican migrants for keeping the people of America safe, even though some seem ungrateful. Batman was often seen as a criminal and booed my the mobs as well.

I find it a little funny that the remianers are using a promise made by a politician to justify their argument, they all lie and all use elastic terms, ha ha trying to hold a politician to account is like trying to catch the wind, people voted and made their choice and that is it. Its democracy and again who the fuck believes a campaigning politician? Naive bellends.

It was once foretold, although never expected to ever happen, that if pap and Barry ever coalesced around the same side of an argument it would mean then end of days.

I just might have to resign from the forum…

Yep you are indeed correct Barry - and several million of them voted Brexit

Saint86, an excellent post to explain your rationale. I disagree with the way you see the world and I’ll not change your mind and vice versa.

You don’t need my approbation or patronage, but I totally respect anyone who voted leave with, what they believe, is a full command of the facts.

The one thing I feel obliged to point out is that any reaction or rebalancing you think you’ve seen, might just be too soon to draw any conclusions.

I feel that the markets will only fully react following a clearer idea of if and when we will give notification to leave under article 50.

Whilst the following should probably be ignored due to the caveat immediately above, I should also point out that the FTSE 250 is still 5%+ below where it was on Thursday 23rd.

The FTSE 100 contains massive organisations, many global, many cash-rich, many able to weather rough waters. The FTSE 250 companies, whilst still not being small concerns, will see the negative effects (if there are any) of a Brexit vote.

And so it will be with the people of our country.

Those well-educated people in full-time employment, lucky enough to be working in offices where bosses call people “fucking idiots” will weather the storms much more easily than those with less going for them in life.

I couldn’t agree with you more but being naive doesn’t mean there’ll be a re run, labour promised lots in the 97 election, rail renationalisation for one, stupid people vote tory whilst they live on benefits and they are being fucked over, I have no pity for them either.

Another good watch, 'slowlane.

I loved the fact that he had to break the types of Leave campaign deception/lies (that he saw) into 3 different categories.

This fellow wants a tv show.

About how politicians lie and decieve and how constitutionally he knows more than the voters? Well fuck me, that is like saying lawyers know more than a bricklayer about law, this go to man should understand the value of one person one vote and respect that, its poltically immature to bleat and winge over a vote, the exiter’s could quite rightly argue the extension was a blatant attempt at bending democracy, accept and move on.

You didn’t watch it, did you?

Interesting they say they are acting on behalf of a group of clients.
