Every time I’ve visited your country, I’ve violated the queen’s pleasure by bringing in contraband or other prohibited items. Your customs lads aren’t very attentive at Heathrow, it seems. I have a theory. You didn’t actually lose the war. You arranged to have the world believe you lost the war. In fact, you set us up as a facade, so that you could continue to engage in all the shady, imperialist, colonialist shenanigans, all the exploitation and oppression of the dusky savages of the undeveloped regions of the world, plundering the wealth and fortune of those untapped resources, and when anyone got upset you could go, “Not us, mate… it is those bloody Americans!”
If this wasn’t the case, the argument about U.S. reparations for slavery would be focused on the fact that the US got saddled with the legacy of it, while Europe actually created the institution of racially based slavery and plundered all of the profits from it.
The English are to be admired for their craft, but not to be trusted.

That’s exactly what I think about the Germans. They’ve been boosting their economy since 1945, free of the costs of defence spending. Now they’re just buying Europe wholesale, they already own Greece and most of Spain and Italy. They tried to get their own party installed in Mallorca ffs

Addressing your point slightly more seriously, I don’t think you’re wrong. Thanks to Marshall Plan money and the standing armies of the West, West Germany came out of that conflict with more infrastructure spent on it per head than the so called victors.
All debts were reset, everyone was given a wad of cash to get things going again and the Mark, a brand new fucking currency, goes on to be one of the strongest currencies in the world and the pegging factor for the Euro.
That’s the secret of the wunderbar German economy. A fuckload of official investment and perhaps influxes of cash from never regained war booty. The West simply couldn’t afford for it to go down, so it never did.
The Germans have achieved dominance of the continent without a shot being fired. Thanks to the ongoing efforts of the French, they even look level-headed and reasonable, the more sensible partner of the duopoly.
However, having seen some of the damage the German government has done to other countries economically, the biggest tool at their disposal, I wouldn’t want them getting militarised anytime soon and for similar reasons would not welcome the prospect of an EU Army.
