:gov: Boris Johnson is Still the Prime Minister

I have read a few articles about the use of the Whips and their methods

I think there is a place for them when a government in trying to push through their legislative agenda - you need to coral the troops particularly if the vote is tight

What I am struggling with is that they are being used to save the career of the PM - that is not OK. - the should be a tool of government not a personal brown shirt organisation

The personal stuff is not on, however threats of deselection maybe - if you are constantly voting against your own party then there is an argument that maybe you shouldn’t be affiliated to them.

Well, the tosspot that crossed the floor of the house reckons school funding was threatened, so that’s a bit like collective punishment.

Novara Media did a good show about the whipping scandal last night. As well as covering present events, they dug into some of the interviews shown from a documentary with former Whips openly admitting they’d cover up scandals involving small boys, etc.

This has always gone on, of course. What is different is that these tactics are now being aired in public by MPs of the day. If evidence does emerge that the quality of people’s lives, such as no new high school for the defector, then the Tories are done.

I wouldn’t expect it to be confined to the tories. “New” Labour under Blair’s two henchmen of the apocalypse, Mandelson and Campbell, were as bad as anything previously produced, or since.

The Tories won’t be done, but Boris will

They will lump the whole steaming pile upon him and say he went rogue trying to save his career

It might not be a bad thing either as it will pull Williamson’s teeth at the same time

I agree. I think there was a quote from Ed Miliband’s former advisor indicating that they were up to exactly the same things.

On Campbell, I was fucking astonished to see Campbell replace Piers Morgan on Good Morning Britain. They’ve now brought back Richard Madeley. Who is Susannah going to be co-hosting with next? Mecha-Hitler?

On the subject of the whip, do you think that part of the problem is that Covid has kept the new intake out of the Commons particularly in the early days of their term and as such haven’t had the opportunity to build relationships and see first hand how business is conducted

They have then come across a thorny old vote and been give a proper arm twist when they have expected to be allowed to vote more freely

Or could it be a hang over from Brexit where MPs were rebelling left right and centre and the whips were using all manner of tactics to get things through and now they have just got used to doing things that way

I’ve seen the 2019 intake described as more Brexiter than Tory, and those seats were ones they never really expected to win.

They’re at most risk of losing their seats and they can see this slow motion car crash increasing that risk.

If a general election were held tomorrow on today’s polls, all but four of them would go back to Labour.

I try and stay out of UK Politics, but I really cannot understand how any Human Being can congratulate a 7 year old kid on cancelling their Birthday Party, then go to their own Birthday Party
