Arse nal v Saints

More likely that he gave it for the shirt pull, but even still that happens at every single set-piece, so where’s the consistency in that decision?

Same old Arsenal, always cheating

it’s true that Long should have scored at least one, but we should not lose a game because of poor referee decisions.

Gutting. That’s all.

Positives
Romeu was fantastic, great range of passing and good defending.
Cedric was great at the back, although his crossing was a bit dodgy.
Redmond looked lively up front but lacked a final product.

Negatives
VVD had a bit of a shocker for me today, his positioning was all over the place and he wasn’t in sync with Fonte at all
Tadic worked hard but never really laid on any chances for the strikers, although a cute free-kick for our goal
JayRod coming off at half time - I don’t think Puel likes him and we need to nail down our starting front 3 so they can gel

Replay shows Giroud arm across fonte’s face then they were both at it how the fuck does he decide it was Fonte on Giroud.

On that performance were should do ok this season - assuming we don’t get that twat Madley as the ref. He was their 12th man…

Third bottom.

This was the first of 3 games in 7 days.

Next game on the 15th and we’ll then play 6 games in about 17 days.

Including the wonderful Thursday / Sunday games.

And we’re learning a new system.

We’ll find out what we’re made of now.

Watch Monreal’s reaction on the replay.

RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE FUCKING REF’S ASSISTANT.

He raises his hands to say “I didn’t mean to tread on the back of Shane’s ankle”.

Ref’s assistant didn’t see it.

Bottom three for us after that result, still early days but need to get going. We need a lucky break to build some confidence.

Looked good in patches but still lack cohesion in my opinion. Midfield balance doesn’t seem right.

Have to say I’m a bit worried our lack of goals will catch up with us, there is an awful lot going to fall on hope that Boufal can do it for us

We know what we’re going to get with Long. Maximum effort and erratic finishing. Shame today was one of those erratic days.

Romeu had his best game for us today, I think. Thought Cedric had a good game too and Clasie before his inevitable substitution. Great to have Bertrand back.

Good movement. A promising performance just a gutting result.

I’d add a positive that we did seem to be getting more disciplined in the diamond.

That said, I fucking hate watching us sit off teams.

After watching us terrorise teams when out of possession over the last 3 years, it makes us look lazy and disconnected.

But I think a lot of the problems Arsenal had breaking us down today came from the formation. We also seemed to press higher up the pitch when JWP came on and Arsenal were tiring / pushing for the win. That was smart.

Kudos to Claude.

Indeed. Thought it suggested we’d sit back too much when he came on for Tadic but I was wrong. It happens occasionally.

I still have know idea what sort of system we are playing.

it comes out from the back to the edge of their box, then goes all the way back to our box, then head forward to the halfway line and give it to the opposition. get the ball back in our box or from our corner flag and do it all over again.

get it in the boody midde and then put it in the back of their bloody net.

Even the Gooner with us was embarrassed by that

This sounds ominous, Belch. But actually the more games the better I think. We seem to be adjusting to this system based on today.

Yep, that’s certainly the positive way to see it TiCK.

But I have watched SO many teams over the years go on woeful runs when the do the whole Thursday / Sunday thing, that I could easily see as many problems.

I’d also say that we’ll probably see some youth shine and make their way into the first team / first team squad over the Europa games.

I guess you;re right as I’d prefer some games to put that right / perfect the system more than another international break.
